I was gonna send in a few reels for service. Do I have to call them first to let them know i'm sending them or do I just ship them with a note enclosed. Thanks!

Just ship them with a note inside the box. And trust me from previous experiences send them UPS or Fed Ex. I had the mail lose way to many things...

If you use usps just add delivery conformation it's only .55

Use UPS. It is the cheapest because it is a business adress and they also us ups. Usually gets there the next day for me.

Guys, thanks for the replies. I will most likely use fedex since they are much closer and slightly cheaper for ground. Just wasn't sure if I had to notify them first. Thanks again!

Thanks

Hi Guys,

I actually sent two reels in myself last Friday 4/1/05, one was a Curado 200B and the other one a Castaic 200, both reels were about 5 years old, the drags were not working anymore so I included a message requesting that they look at them and see if they could be repaired. I have not heard from them or have not received the reels so I will give them a few more days before i make the call. They said that if repais were needed that they would repair the reel and include a bill for the service/parts, which is fine with me. I'm just curious to see if they will repair them or if they will just send me new ones, i serisouly doubt it but hey I've heard some great stories on their Customer service and i have dealt with them on Rods with great results so you just never know what to expect.

I will also report back when i get the reels back.

Tight Lines Guys!

Ok, so far I received 1 of my reels back from Shimano. They changed the pinion drive & the gear drive on it and performed the platinum service on it. The platinum service is $25. It also states that the packing slip is not an invoice and that they'll be mailing an invoice separately. Maybe, they're waiting to complete my other 2 reels before they send me the bill. We'll see...

The way it works is that the "Platinum" reels have a 2 day turn around time. They are worked on seperately than the other reels. You'll probably get the others back soon. I had to wait a couple of weeks for my stuff but my CTE300 came back real quick. I called the customer service and they explained it to me

Thanks Mag,

How do they determine what reel get's the platinum service and did they bill you all at once or separately? Thanks...

Just an update. Apparently, Shimano is backed up and the turn around for everything is approx 5 weeks. It's been about 2 weeks since they received my reels, so I'm looking around mid-May to get them back. As far as platinum service only higher end reels like Calais & Calcutta TE's fall into that category. Funny thing is the Tiagra's don't get the platinum service and that's their highest end saltwater reel. Go figure!

Well it's been almost 7 weeks and still no reels. I called them last week and they proceded to tell me it was a 6 week turnaround which I politely pointed out it had already been 6 weeks. I tried calling their customer service today but apparantly they are in some kind of training until 1:15pm. Anyone having the same problem?

Yes, I am having the same problem. I sent mine in on the 5th of April and so far nothing, not even a reply to my email messages. I am starting to question their customer service. I will call them right now and see what kind of response i get. Will keep you guys posted.

Update:

Spoke to them over the phone yesterday, (guy named Josh) he said they were both ready and either shipping out that day or today, should see them in a 2 - 3 days. I will post back when i receive them.

If you guys don't remember I posted about having problems with my Curado and sent it in a while back. I got it back about a week ago and they fixed it and it works as good as new now. It took a while to get back but as long as it's working good that cool. They charged my $20 for the repair and will send something back saying how to pay it.
