3473, Van to tow with

Anyone have any experience using a Chevy Express Van, or a GMC Savanah, or Ford Econoline for towing and basically their fishing rig?

I'm considering going for a cargo van and making it my traveling fishing mobile. A lot of those vans have 4.6 or 4.8L V8 engines, which aren't huge but apparently get the job done. Just wondering if anyone is using a relatively current model van to tow a bass boat and haul gear and what they like/don't like???

Yes, I know, vans are for creeps!

can you say unibomber :-)

Get a chevy! Try and get a 5.7 for the extra power. When your livin in your rig, you got all your stuff with you so your van weighs alot, nit to mention all the tackle in the boat :-)

Buy something with a Diesel engine. I think you will be happier in the long run. They tow better and avergae a little better mileage when towing. Plus they last a lot longer.

A couple of years ago I went on the search for the ultimate two vehicle and family car that got good gas mileage and what I came up with was a van. The 2002-2006 118 in WB Dodge Sprinter van with the 5 cylinder inline Mercedes Diesel will get close to 30 MPG seat 8 and tow 3500 pounds (not as much towing as a big truck, but the mileage makes up for it) The motor in these vans are known "million mile motors" and FedEx and UPS have been using them for years. The biggest problem is finding a passenger verity of the sprinter, but if you are wanting it for a fishing van the cargo verity is not going to be a big deal. The other "problem" is it is U G L Y, but I am a form over function guy. They stopped making the 5 cylinder version in 06 so you are forced to buy used but that is not a bad thing.
