754, When i get bored i make rods
Posted by bass kid, Thu Feb-23-06 05:47 PM
Here is an old phynex excaliber rod about 6'3''. Ive had this rod for a bit and never wanted to use it much because thehandle was to short for my likeing, so i took part of an old shimano graphite rod and glassd it inside the other rod. It add some weight but the rod was light to start with so i dont mind. Puttn the grip on the end added about 3 inches and im happy with it. Cany wait to try it out.It does look a bit messy but i am going to put glass on some of it and clean it up
I gues i put up the pics bacwards

dude, do you still have the excalibur handle off that phenix??? I'll buy it off you if its not broken and workable...

Anyone who has older school phenix rods with excalibur handles..I will buy your rod or your handle or whatever...I love those rods and obviously you can't get them from phenix anymore...

Thank you!

Yo, Matt, if you want rods with a custom, hard to find handle check out some rodbuilder sites. I personally began building my rods last year and a lot of guys will customize your existing rods or make new rods with the handle style you prefer. For example, you can make a rod with a full handle into a split grip yourself or have someone do it professionally, as well cutting a few inches off the grip on most rods. Usually you can cut off a couple inches off a rod's rear grip if your careful enoguh without any affect on the rod's performance. To get a grip to the diameter you want, just the sand the grip with some different types of snadpaper until you get the dia. and shape you want.You can also remove the foregrips on many rods, and get a Kistler style look! Or you can just find a blank that fits your needs and pay someone like me to build it! :) (I'd prefer if you choose the latter option but if you must...) Here's a great link (click on the Articles section and scroll down till you find the articles about customizing rods) about what I'm talking about, this guy is really informative;
