Excalibur went out of business, and they won't be making spooks in my favorite color, Okie Shad. Fortunately, Heddon has created some great new colors.

I saw these at the Bass Pro Shop in November and picked up a handful in chartreuse, white/chartreuse and chartreuse/silver.

Just wondering where you heard/read that Excalibur went out of business since they're just one of the Pradco brands (the company that makes Heddon, Bomber, Rebel, Cordell, Arbogast lures).

Excalibur is the brand name that Pradco uses on improved versions of their other lures, like Heddon's Zara Spook or Rebel's Pop-R.

The reason for my post was to show the sweet new colors.

The guys at my local tackle shop told me that Excalibur has been discontinued / went out of business, and that the lures will be released under different names. I don't have any documented proof that this is true. I definitely should have been more specific in my first post.

BPS didn't feature any Excalibur line in the 2005 catalog, and the super spooks are being advertised as Heddon. I put 2 & 2 together & made that statement.

Many shops still have the Excalibur line in stock, but I don't know if they're still being manufactured under that same brand.

Okie Shad was my previous favorite color, but I like the new white / silver / chartreuse colors better that Okie Shad.

We're splitting hairs here, but the spooks, super pop-r's, fat free shads, etc. are being sold as Heddon, Rebel, & Bomber. Those weak hooks are still being sold as Excalibur, but Pradco is phasing out that brand name. All of the products still exist, but they're being sold under different names.

Since everyone's posting different "Spooks", I'll do the same:

Click on the baits to hear their unique sound.

Because there's a certain appeal to catching fish on a lure that's been around for more than 75 years (and costs half of what a Sammy goes for)...

I have a box full o' Sammy's--and you're right, they catch lotsa fish--but I like the idea of catching fish on something from way-back-when.

The Okie Shad color Mike F mentioned is also one of my favorites--if it's been discontinued then I guess it's time to stock up on old stock...

Dan,

Tim and Jeff copied that bait from an old company called "Whopper Stopper" The bait they made had the same sound it was called a "Throbber" either way it is a pretty cool bait!
