I might be headed up that way in mid Jan. If you want to go out one day let me know. I would like to try hitting some harbors if they produce much in the winter. Any idea if they do, if so what?

Yeah Brian, I should be staying in SB one night. There is a contemporary art gallery in downtown I need to stop by. Maybe we could hit the trailer park. I'll let you know when I have the dates.

I'm not to sure what type of action we have in the mid winter, but I will look into it. I think that if the rock cod restrictions are not bad, jumping on a party boat would be fun. Then again, there is always the big rays that hide out in the bay. I hear those suckers fight HARD! I havent taken my tube into the salt yet, but would like to. Remember those waders because your going to need them.

Big rays are brutal to catch in a tube. I got one that went at least 50-60 pounds on 25 pound line and it was tough to keep from flipping over! I was getting dragged forward and my fins were dragging backwards underneath me. If you use fairly heavy line like 20 or 25 pound, you might want to keep the rod a bit shorter if you decide to go in a tube. Just a suggestion........

The party boat idea sounds good, as long as it's for shallow water. I hate rock codding, but shallow stuff with jigs and rubber I'd like to try. See what you can find out.

I got a pretty decent ray in the tube on 12 lb. last summer. Don't want to guess the weight but it had about a 50 inch wingspan and the world record is 180 lbs. with a 63 (I believe) inch wing so I imagine it was in the 80 - 100 lb. range. The fight was way out-of-hand. There were a few times I was actually scared. Didn't see the thing for like 30 minutes. Snagged it in the wing so the whole time I kept feeling "head shakes" making me think I hooked into a huge barndoor flattie. Kicked to the beach to land it losing a fin in the process. All in all it was pretty exciting but of course I wish it would been a halibut!

I'm off work between Christmas and New Years and will be trying to hit Lopez or Margarita on one of those days.
