alligator gar, it's real...a buddy of mine's Dad was Townsend Miller, who is the world record holder for longnose gar. Townsend used to catch alligator gar on the Trinity River in Texas that were well over 7 feet and 200 lbs. There's some pretty good stories on Garfishing.com.

On Lake Austin, I had one come up for air right next to my boat, it was between 6 and 7 feet. Pretty impressive

arte you sure they're aligator gar? More than likely, you're referring to long-nose or short-nose

All I know is , IF YOU"RE GOING TO KILL IT YOU'D DAMN WELL BETTER EAT IT!!! I wonder how alligator gar tastes? How long did it take for that fish to grow that big vs. how long it took to kill it?!! I hunt, but I also USE EVERYTHING dowm to bones!!(execpt entrails...) What are they going to do ,pay a taxidermist to mount it?(that'll cost more than the boat they're in!) I think not. Poor bastard will wind up as fertilizer in someones garden,if it's 'lucky'...Friggin' Waste ---- "Man: The Ultimate Predator" until they screw with a REAL alligator! Watch a few of the "FACES OF DEATH movies, you'll know what I'm talking about(Mother Nature has a way of issueing her own 'payback...) ---- Aaaannnyyyyway, jes' my opine, Alex

There is an article in the latest IN-fisherman magizine on aligator gar conservation. These fish have been around just as long as the stergeon and there are no laws protecting these fish.
