The Calcutta 400S is an option if the TE is too much $$. I have a 400 TE and a 400S. I use the TE on the really big stuff. The non-disengaging levelwind seems to shorten my casting distance on the lighter stuff. That might not be as pronounced on the 300 TE though.

For baits like the osprey, I use the 400S. The lack of a levelwind helps with the casting distance and avoids the extreme angles when you hook a big one. It is a bit of a pain guiding the line on while reeling though.

This is all just my opinion though. I don't throw the big baits nearly as often as some others on this board, so don't put too much weight on what I have to say. I just really like my Calcutta 400S.
