10286, Lake Gregory 7-4-03

Today was the first of a three day tagged trout derby. When I called thursday night, the lake had told me they already stocked. I picked Rick up at 7 and we were off.

When we got to the lake, guess what was just showing up. The stocking truck!!! We still went out in the tubes and fished primarliy in just to the left of the docks. It was like a war zone out there going between tubes and boats, but not one person was yelling at another.

Rick and I missed a few fish here. I saw many tagged fish swim by, but none wanted to take. We then floated to the fountains and back again catching a few crappie. When we got back by the boat docks I tied on a yellow mini-jig and caught three trout between a pound and a pound and a half.

I got out before Rick and went to get the car. The fins and my socks had made a nice sized blister on the top of my right foot. RIck and I then went down by the baseball diamond and I was very surprised no crowd was here.

We found a nice school of carp so I ran back to the car, and grabbed the Donuts that we didn't eat for breakfast. Sure enough they worked great for bait! The Carp loved them! Rick and I both brought in 4 carp a apiece and lost 3 more a piece. I had two break off, and one spit the hook. One of the carp that broke off I tried to tpalm the spool a little when he broke, and the other one I just never turned, he was an easy 20-25 pounds.

All in all it was fun out there! Here are two pics from the day.
