12758, New to fishing!

Girlfriend took me fishing on my birthday last weekend. Didn't catch anything but I know I'm hooked. Where do I go to get some basic information on bass or trout fishing? We live in San Francisco and went to Lake Chabot which was beautiful and will probably head out there again very soon.

Would like to learn some basic before I head out there again and not catch anything. Any suggestions would be appreciated! Thanks!

Go to the Float Tube/Kick Boat forum on this site. They are really familiar with the area. If you're that interested, it won't be long before you're in a float tube or kick boat. It's an excellent way to enjoy fishing.

Your Girlfriend took you fishing for the first time? Now THAT is cool. KEEP HER. Lol.

Glad you enjoyed it, my friend.

I'm from the bay, live down in So Cal though. If you are getting into fishing, I always liked surf fishing Up there. Big Rod, Big Reel, simple rigs, sand crabs and the beach. Best thing do do is find some local tackle shops in the city and ask them whats up and where some good spots are. Stinson Beach, Half Moon Bay, and hell, just the bay over near Jack London in Oakland has great perch.

And remember...salmon in june and july! Go up to the Humboldt coast for the weekend and you'll have a blast.

My advice? Go to Barnes and Noble and pick up blue book called California Fishing, by Tom Steinstra. All the good spots and reviews.

Good luck!
