The Stripers have been good to me lately. Lures have been the bait of choice. The cats are hitting them once in awhile too. Must be the spawn...who knows??? Just was surprised to reel in a whiskerfish or two jiggin'. Lots of fun.

I havent caught a catfish out of the aqueduct on a lure yet, but I have caught 20 pound cats on 12" trout plugs at some of the local lakes.

What city are you from? Some one will help you find the closest spot. It is the California Aqueduct. I believe there is a Los Angeles Aqueduct. Not that one.

It's off the 138 before you get to Littlerock.

If I was you I would try the stretch that dumps into Silverwood lake. It's closer to you.

I am using a topo map while posting this. First off, I have not been to these areas. Although, I believe others have spoken of the Summit Valley area, I am not sure where to enter that area. Here is another that shows easy access from my map.

From Ontario: take I-15 NORTH pass 138. EXIT Ranchero St. Go right (east). You will cross the duct.
IF THERE IS NO EXIT AT RANCHERO ST. -
Here is another: same as above except EXIT at Phelan Rd. Go right (east). The duct is there real soon.

BankLber. caught an 11 lb. striper on a 7" swimbait. Not there but in the duct.

Hey Stephen,
I have fished the duct by Hesperia a couple times. Never caught anything there though. Hit me up when you take a trip up there. I'd like to get into some of the stripers and/or catfish.

To get to that stretch of duct like Fisher said, exit at the 138 and head east like going to Silverwood. You will make a left, north, at the only gas station you see, it's a little mom and pop place on the south corner. This road will turn into a dirt road. The access road to the duct is about 2 miles up and it's the only paved road exiting this dirt road. Follow it up the hill and park at the access gates. I have heard of some really large fish coming out of this stretch.
Bucktails, swimbaits and cranks have been producing for me on the linesides. Been slaying the kitties with chicken livers and clams.
Hope this helps.

Since I'm in San Jose I fish the aqeducts from San Luis up to Byron. The cats were caught in the Delta Mendota which I'm not positive streches out as far south to your neck of the woods. I believe the California Aqueduct does. Anyway, I'm going out tomorrow morning for a couple of hours and hopefully will hook-up like crazy.

Anyone going to be hittin' "the river" tonight?
First post for me...but, I've been keeping an eye on the tips for about a month now...Was at 82nd in Littlerock last weekend, but the weather was a little rough. Still managed to yank out a 6 lb line-side, and a little cat before the rain sent me home...I'll try to be at Ave. S from about 10-4 tonight...if ya see a 1991 Honda Accord out there...give me a shout...Hope to see some of you out there one of these days...

Damn! Woke up bright and early to hit up the cement river with great expectations. Well, they shut the pumps and the water was at a stand -still. Boy was it tough fishin'today. Five hours and only one Striper. No taps, followers, etc. It was as slow as an old dog takin' a dump! The fish-traps are being replaced and won't be done by mid-May, hopefully. Until then no water-flow which means TOUGH fishin'!!! They gotta eat! Not today I guess. Well, at home catchin' a buzz 'cause I coudn't catch any fish!!! Hugs & kisses, James.

Take I-5 north to the 14 North. Exit Ave. S and go left to the stop sign. Make another left and park at the bridge. Good place to start. You can get an area map at any gas station around there that will have street maps. Generally any road that crosses the duct has an access point. It starts up by Quail lake and goes all the way to Silverwood. You can fish the stretches from Quail lake to Pearblossom. Or the last stretch before it goes underground before Silverwood.

Hey Bank Pounder,

I actually stopped by that spot a couple weeks ago (when it rained on me). Didn't have any luck though, weather was too rough. Do you ever fish the next bridge to the West. You know, the one on "S" where the handicap access is? It looked pretty good to me, but it's still a little tight...
I took a little page out of your book when I was at the bridge after you turn left at the stop sign though...Had my little humminbird smartcast, and was checking out the bottom structure...have you ever figured out what that is on the bottom when you're on the South side of that bridge. I kept getting a reading like there was a shelf there or something, with a couple fish under it...do you get the same result? If you're not sure what I'm talking about, when you're at the bridge on the South side and you're looking towards the water...you go about 10-15 yards to your left...once you're there...about 15-20 feet out is where I was seeing that shelf...Are my batteries low, or am I really seeing that? If that shelf is really there, I figure I'd let my bait drift right under it, and see what happens...If I'm on crack and have just rambled on for nothing, please ignore this post...but, if I'm right...please let me know so I can put my mind at ease...I keep visualizing that spot in my sleep...hahahaha...

Oh, by the way...the wife didn't let me out the other night...so, I wasn't able to make it..."The Man" doesn't trip on you for fishing the aqueduct at night, right? Just checking, I don't want to end up getting busted. I guess I'm too used to the lower lake at Castaic...I guess I've spent too many long nights out there under the stars...I've gotten so used to fishing at night (and sometimes tubing)...I end up wanting to fish anywhere at night.

Well...that's enough out of me...sorry for unloading thoughts 'n questions that've been stewing for a few weeks now...

It IS legal to fish at night along the CA aqueduct where fishing is allowed. Also Quail Lake too. Lots of people fish at night during the summer for catfish.

Thank you very much Fisher...that's good news 'cuz nights are pretty much the safest bet that my wife will let me out...She's learned that if I take off at 3:00am, and say that I'll be home sometime in the early afternoon...she isn't going to see me until about 5:30pm...you can't put a clock on a guy when he's "in the zone." hehehe...So, now she just says "...go ahead>>>" when I tell her that I'm takin' off fishin' for the night...she also knows me well enough to realize,,,I'd rather be fishing than wasting time & money with "someone else." So, she knows I'll keep myself out of trouble when I'm out wettin' my lines...maybe I'll be seein' some of y'all out there one of these days/nights...If ya see a 6 foot tall, skinny, big eared 1/2 breed Japanese guy out there or a '91 Honda Accord at Barrel Springs, 82nd, or along Ave. S...gimme a holler, even if you're not interested how the fishing is...at least check to make sure I didn't fall in or something...I guess that's the one disadvantage to having eyes like this...vertical vision isn't too good...hahahahaha

Have a good one y'all,

P.S. - Anyone heard from Bankpounder regarding the "mystery-shelf?"

Hey Dylan,
Sorry didn't get back to ya sooner, been working down in Diego all week. No you aren't dreaming and nothing is wrong with your Smartcast, I use one myself and there is a small ledge there, and 9 times outta 10 you can pull a cat or 3 out from it. Be prepared to loose some tackle there though, I've busted off 20 lb Maxima there quite a few times.
I'm heading out this evening to the Ave S area, like a junkie looking for a fix, gotta wet my line. If you see a gray toyota van that's me.

Hey Bank Pounder,

Sorry for not thanking you sooner...I haven't had much time on my hands lately...Had a little bit of a scare on Tuesday (05/04) at work...Was talkin' fishin' with one of the other guys there, and got a little bit of a head rush as I stood up. I don't really remember standing up, but according to the guy I was talking to...I went down like a tree. I didn't even put my hands out. Anyway, to make a long story short. I woke up about half an hour later later in the emergency room, and was all busted up. I look like I got hit by a truck. The "quacks" are still trying to figure out what happened to me, but I'm sure I"ll be back out there again soon. After that little spill, the wife doesn't think standing on the bank of the cement river is too good an idea. I hate to say it, but I actually agree with her this time. A little bit of recovery time and I'll be back out wettin' my lines. Thanks for the info. Bank Pounder...Now, I've just gotta get my "nugget" fixed so I can get back out there with ya. The weather's been perfect too...It really sucks being all locked up like this...Anyway, hopefully the fish have been good to y'all, and I'll be joining you soon...

Anyone going to be going out there this weekend?
Just wondering if there are any updates...Anyone catching anything? Hot spots? I'd imagine the weather is working in our favor right about now...Anyway, it's probably gonna be a little while (as I mentioned earlier) before I'm back out there again...When I do get the opportunity to wet my lines again, I'm probably going to be like a fat guy that's eaten nothing but celery for a month...gonna over do it, and end up with a sun burn that'll cause half my face to peel off. I call it my "binge fishing."

In response to Dylan if the aqueducts are pumping water this weekend I'll definitely be going. The last time I hit the aqueducts in April they were replacing the fish-nets at the pumping station which means no water flow and very tough fishing for me. I did manage one keeper but it was caught on frozen shad which I don't frequently use since I prefer to use lures 99% of the time. Anyway, if I do go (water moving) I'll let y'all know how badly I whooped the Stripers.
