13336, A Little Help Here?

Anyone ever seen this before? I caught this fish today and he had moss growing on both sides of his head?

It looks like there was some sort of disease eating away at the skin, and the moss started growing over the raw skin. It was on both sides. I only saw the small patch on the right at first and went to pull it off before I let him go. I noticed it was attached and then noticed the other side, which was way worse! I just left it alone cause he seemed healthy. :-)

Just wondering if anyone else has seen this or knows what it is?

I guess he got tired of hearing all those buzz-baits & rattle-traps. So, he decided to stick moss in his ears. :7

That fish came out of Haiwee.

I know fishing has been real tough there the last year or so, but if you fish it right now, you'll kill em!

I caught close to 30 fish on Sunday. Fished from about 7am till 6pm. I caught 7 or 8 lm and the rest were all smallies. It took awhile to figure out a pattern, but when I did it was on! All lm's were real tight to cover (wood). The smallies were in 1-12 ft of water. Shad seemed to be the best overall color. All fish except about 4 were caught on dropshot. The others on a storm crank. Here's a couple pics.

I've heard that's a good lake. How far is it from Ridgecrest? Sounds like it may be worth the trip. BTW, weren't you going to start pouring some reapers? How about some in a hitch color? I'd like to buy some of those if you poured that color for the Clear Lake tourney.

Oh yeah. I was up at Isabella the other day and seen some nice bass up on beds. Also, heard reports of some good ones biting in the Boulder/French Gulch area. Unfortunately, I was without any bass gear. This was the first time I ever went fishing without having all my bases covered(bass, trout, crappie, or whatever). Only took a little ultra-light and crappie jigs.

Haiwee is about 45 minutes North of Ridgecrest on the east side of HWY 395. If you're gonna make a tube trip, take the Lakeview Drive exit. Follow the dirt road till it comes to a chainlink fence and go left about 50 yards. That's the only place to launch a kickboat or tube without walking a mile. You still have to walk about 30 yards to the water, but there is a paved path. It's not hard to find, they have signs posted 'to fishing parking' and 'locked gate ahead'. Just don't go towards any locked gates and you'll be ok. :P

Yes, I'm pouring some reapers. Only in 5" right now. The hitch color is up in the air right now. I sent some out to someone to test. I'm not too sure about the color combo right now? I do have some other colors poured though. I've been real busy trying to get all the baits ready for the Open. I'll have some additional baits for sale at the Open.

I'm going to try and make it to Isabella on Friday. It depends on if I have to put in ot or not? I have every other Friday off. If not, I might still go up Saturday morning. I'm thinking about working the outside of the trees around camp 9?

Yeah. I'll probably buy some reapers from you if something looks interesting. Sounds to me like the reapers work up in that part of the world.

I seen those bass up at the very back of French Gulch behind the bridge. So I'm think there are probably some staging out towards the mouth of this area. I was surprised to see the bedding bass back there. There is a feeder creek about 10 feet from where they were at. Which I'm thinking would make the water a little cold. They must be following that channel up to the end of that cove.

We fished at Tillie Creek for a while and seen a ton of shad swimming real tight to the bank. There was a never ending stream of them. So I bet that might be a good choice in the morning. Tillie Creek is a straight kick across from the Camp Nine launch ramp. I don't care for that lake so far. This weekend would be the last chance I would have to get up there for a while. After seeing those fish it makes me want to give it a go. But, I feel a skunkin' coming on every time I head up there to fish for bass. NKFT has a tourney the weekend after. Then it's the open the week after that.
