My family will be stream fishing end of July. We like flowing water, not like Owens. I mainly use spinners and salmon eggs and we mainly catch and release. We don't do barbless, fly, nor use waders. Our old standby streams are Biship Creek and Mammoth Creek, but we want to try some new places. My grandma is coming so we can't hike too far, and we don't like fishing with many other anglers... we like having our space. Any suggestions? Rainbows, browns, we aren't picky, we just enjoy fishing streams and enjoying nature. Thanks for your ideas... OH, and if your can tell me how to get there, that would be helpfull. Is the water high this year, or is it drought-like?

Dont know how the water levels are, but most of the ckeeks flowing into the Owens River are pretty good for trout. Beginning just east of Owens Valley. Good luck and have fun. Sean

just get a map, find a lake or stream....and hike in.

most of the popular areas will always have people. upper & lower owens, hot creek (ff, barbless only), rush creek, bishop, etc, etc.

the farther you hike, the less chance you have of running into people.

and, weekdays, cause weekends can be a zoo.:) :7 :D

You could always try Rock Creek, and above it there is a nice easy hike into the little lakes valley that you can come on to a lake every 15 minutes or so. Only drawback for that hike is it's at the 10000 foot elevation so I dont know how well the older people in your group could handle it. Good luck!

forgot Rock Creek. the hike into Little Lakes valley (LLV), though relatively easy, can be tough because of the altitude.... took my dear old dad...he's 65 and he had a tough time. that first hill up can be tough if you're out of shape or older cause at 10k ft elevation, the air is thin.

either pick a spot at rock creek lake. that's pretty navigable with older folks. or, hit the lower portions at east fork campground. or mosquito flats trailhead to LLV. and mind you, it's not called mosquito flats for nothing. bring replellant, the kind with DEET. you will need it. for that fact anywhere on rock creek.

you can even try lee vining/saddlebag creek at tioga pass. where the creek crosses the road (hwy 120) is a pretty good spot. dfg stocks there, watch the stocking reports. there is a parking lot and campground right there. easily accesible but it can get crowded on weekends.
