The first trip of the new year and the new millenium. Nice weather for January, and I had a new rod to test out too. It's a Castaway STM7 crankbait rod. The rod has 10 guides and a very soft tip, I really liked the way you could feel the crank thumping along on the bottom. But I digress.
Started fishing at 2:30pm across from whiteoak. There are some submerged trees in this one spot and after working the area for about half an hour with a Norman Deep Little N, I switched to a 5" Cardiff Plastics swimbait on a 1oz head and caught a 2 pounder. Moving down across from the marina I threw some different cranks on my new rod but didn't find anything so as it was getting dark I headed back into the swimming pool cove, made 2 casts and connected with a 4-6 on the deep little N. The fish put up a great fight and (did I mention the rod already?) the rod was awesome! Clicked a couple pictures on the digital camera and put her in the live well in hopes that Dean would still be at the marina when I got in to take a picture. Well I just missed him as he drove up the hill so I released the fish, made a few more casts back in the marina cove and then headed in. Look for a trout plant on Wed or Thurs. If you remember, Craig Jacobsen caught the lake record striper in early January two years ago. They're still in there!
Here's the photography from today:
2 pounder on the swimbait

The 4-6 on the Deep Little N
