Livermore Ken, this buds for you :) Nico and I were ... bored. There's not much to fish for in August these days. About 3pm we got the idea to go rent a boat at Los Vaqueros. I guess your post got us to thinking we should give it a try. Seems like one of us goes there about every 2 years. Nico headed off. When he got there he called to inform that it was too windy so they weren't renting boats.

Can I just say that I hate stupid lakes filled with stupid rules and no private boat launch? I packed up and went anyway. We figured to shorepound until dark.

When I got there Nico said he'd seen some striper busting from far off. That seemed promising. We fished for a few hours for nothing. I had a bass follow the Slammer, like a 4 pounder. Saw a guy catch a nice trout fishing right under one of the docks. He looked like one of those guys in the old tuna videos jack poling the trout on to the dock the second he set the hook. Funnies :)

Toward sunset I was going through my box trying various items. The all white 6" big hammer has always been good for striper so I tied one on. I had a hit but it was a weak hit and I didn't set. A few minutes later I got a real striper bite and landed a 15lb 6oz striper :) Big headed skinny fish. Could barely believe it.

We fished until close. I had one other tap on the big hammer but it felt small. So that was all.
