293, Castaic Float Tube Tourney Fish Report

This years float tube tourney at Castaic was a huge success. An average turnout of about 55 anglers and good weather was great start. I went with a few friends: Chris M, Dan S, Vince D, Scott, and Park. I saw anglers banging fish right from the begining. One guy right next to me landed a 6.1 # lunker that tied for big fish. There were several five fish limits caught. Unfortunately, I was not included in that privileged group. My buddy Dan got five legals, including a 1.5# bass caught at 10:52am (8 mins. before the weigh in deadline). Luckey bastard! Dan got 9th place which landed him a nice Shimano rod & reel combo. His total weight was a little over 8#'s. The winning weight was over 15#'s. Most of the fish were caught on beds in the south end of the lake by Paradise cove. Unfortunatley I was not aware of that during the tourney and I was fishing the rocks by the spillways (I guess I should have pre fished a little). Sports Challet sponsered this event for it's 7th year and came through with a lot of good stuff: 1 Caddis Navigator, 1 Caddis U-boat, 3 rod & reel combos, 3 sets of two Kenwood FRS two way radios, 2 Fishin Buddy II units, a Shimano Accu View underwater camera, and a bunch more of other stuff.
Weigh in was nice this year. There was 3 kayaks and 1 bass boat on the water with digital scales. Each fish was weighed and released immediately on the water. Each angler was allowed to weigh 10 fish. The boaters / kayaks used a two way radio to call in the weights to the tournament director who kept talley. Each angler's top five fish counted towards the final weight.
I can't wait till next year!
