After following the convoy of cars down the 5 mile dirt road checking in and loading the boat we were on the water by 6:30. One thing I can say is bring a trolling motor, the wind picks up and the little 2hp with no reverse makes it tough..

Started out rippin the shore with a flashminnow 110, my buddy hooked up with a crank fish on his second cast. As we drifted away from the shore I ripped 2 fish in the flats of a cove, and we fished that area for an hour and yanked on 6 more bass. I love a rip bite in the fall.

All that rippin was fun but we stroked em on dropshot no less than 10 foot of water. I lost count after about 15 is was wide open for a while. The bite stayed good throughout the day it was just tough to stay in position with no troll motor. We caught a few fish on rattletrap as well as the blade. My first fish on the spinnerbait pulled hard right on the edge of a weed line he was about 3 pounds, 2.5 pounds of fish and about .5 of some kind of cancer ball growing on the side of it, “weird.” Aside from that the quality fish here really impressed me here. I would say a solid 2.5 pound average with the biggest being over 4. We lost some 5-6 pound fish that dogged us in the weeds or wrapped us in the trees. These fish pull hard. Easy 50 fish day, but I will not go back without a trolling motor, it was to much work, pushing off the shore with an oar starting the motor up etc...

They are only open on weekends up until Oct. 27. Look up Ticketmaster on the web, search for fishing and Barrett will come up. You have to reserve the day with a credit card.

kind of funny, I had a bunch of those Helicopter lures left over from an impulse buy a few years ago- I WHACKED the bass at LMV on them, my buddy was giving me all kinds of crud, but the bass were all over them- I rig them with a #6 Sampo ball bearing swivel 12" above it, I use flouro leader, they catch bass, BIG bass!! Go dig them out of your closet, and try it!! Me and Rook nailed them on the 'copter at Irvine last week, they wouldn't even touch a buzzbait.
