9024, Specific rod/reel recommendation? Posted by salmonoid 1, Mon Mar-31-03 04:32 PM
Not another question about a rod/reel recommendation! 'fraid so.
Having nearly finished my seven day per week self-employment for months I am ready to get a rod bent.
Please recommend a rod and reel for the following purpose(s): tossing 1/4 to 1/2 ounce (max) swimbaits and lures of similar weight for smallmouth and non-trophy size largemouth, and possibly for perch (the larger ones) in the salt. I thought that an outfit for 10 pound test (because of possibly fishing in snaggy areas and possibly tangling with a larger than expected fish) and rated lure weight of up to 1/2 ounce would be about right, but I am new to this kind of downsized fishing and need advice.
Thanks. Bob

Spinning or casting?
For lite swimbaits, I really like that Loomis MBR 941C. It's just right for 1/2oz with a 4" swimbait on smaller fish. I've caught a lot of nice seabass on it too and it gets pretty whipped but you'll get them.
Spinning, I dunno. I have a Castaway 7'6" spinning rod that would be really good for finesse swimbaiting. I hardly use it though since I don't use spinning much.

Thanks Rob. I am open to spinning or baitcasting for my intended purpose.
