9247, While you were at the Fred Hall Show...
Posted by Quietman, Fri Mar-07-03 06:59 PM
Quietman was fishing Doheny and Dana Point!

Spent quite a while on the water today, launched from doheny about 10am and landed about 4pm or so. Only stayed out so long because the FISHING ROCKED.

I started at the "money spot" and caught Halibut till I was tired of them. Caught 12, with three being easy keepers, one kept, the second largest at 33," the rest were short. And oddly quite a few were really short, like 16". I really haven't caught very many small 'butts at Doheny before.

Went and checked out the boiler rocks, and what do you know! The sand bass and rockfish were home. Caught a bunch, didn't count. You could sit and cast by the green lobster bouy and your jig wouldn't hit the bottom. I got broken off twice on Big somethings that wrapped me on the bottom/weeds whatever. Broke another 27# swivel.

Then headed into the harbor hoping the giant Barracuda were home. Nope, but non-stop action on short WSB and Barracuda to 27".

I also caught a couple YF croaker, some giant smelt and a sea slug!

All Halibut and Bass, Rockfish and croaker were caught on 4" power pulse worms rigged weedless.

All WSB, Barracuda and smelt were caught on rebel fastrac 4.5" in Orange/Gold. Deadly.

My arms were actually getting tired from cranking, and gaffing the one halibut I decided to keep got me soaked!
