Daveys Locker is probably the better of the two sportfishing docks in Newport Harbor. I have generally only taken the 3/4 day freelance and the full day thunderbird. The crews are very good and the boats are nice. I would highly recommend them especially if you are going to go for some yellowfin right now they are doing a good job and staying out later than they usually do to get more fish in the boat.
One warning sometimes they run a second 3/4 day boat called the Caliber. Don't get on that boat. It has a cruising speed of like 2 knots you will spend most of your day just getting to the fish.
To some up I would definately recommend Daveys Locker if you are going to fish the Newport area.

If you mean fishing on the Dock, then yes, a few years ago, I tried that. If you are facing out, the right corner of the dock is best. There is a little slope there going deep; this is where the halibit hangs out. I would use a Halibit rig; single hook up front and trailing treble hook. Worm kings and fish traps swimbaits are good here. Ofcourse you also have the option of live bait, that works too. Good Luck
