We shall dub this, "the day of the shorts". Lots of minishorts (6-9"), 3 legals (1 sandie ~1.5, and 2 spotties, the bigger one ~3). I think I had 15 + shorts, plus a microsculpin.
Launched at 4am, back about 10:30. Only 2 fish before daybreak and not many bites, so I guess the sandies finally moved out to spawn. After daybreak, anything small would get bit, but mostly shortbiters and small ones. So, I eventually stayed with the bigger baits. Color was a major issue. Bassackwards. It was very overcast, but dark colors were not working. In the end, clear w/ hologram flake zippershads are what got all my solid strikes (two nicer ones farmed) and the 2 spotties. Rigged 'em on a 1/2 oz. Owner sled head.
Water was getting towards the warm end, maybe 66ยบ. Wind was slight to modest, but only intermittent. Current was really weak, particularly for a decent tide swing. Also, lots and lots of rental boats and PBers. Met a nice guy while I was loading my stuff at the truck. He is looking (maybe has one now) at getting his first yak. Spent a good 1/2hr answering questions and giving some tips. Overall it was relaxing and fun.

Sorry for the slow response. Just got to the boards after being out of town. I launch at the USCG beach (good for yak launching, launch on the penninsula if tubing). I fish the area from the end of the HP docks to the big boat attached to the big bouys (towards the Pavillion) to just inside the bait barge. This big triangle is loaded with fish. Just a matter of getting the right conditions, right spots, and the right bait, at the same time. With all the sun these days the spotties should pop soon. Then it's full speed on nice spotties.
