10744, Santa Cruz vs. Capitola?
Posted by salmonoid 1, Fri Sep-05-03 03:30 PM
I have an opportunity to skiff fish out of either Capitola or Santa Cruz throughout the year. I know that they are very close, but overall is one of these locations closer to inshore rockfish reefs, beaches for halibut drifting, and salmon grounds than the other? Also is the wind/chop different for these two locations?

Thanks for any advice.

Bob

If your Skiffing it I'd say Capitola in a big way. 1) Rockfish reefs are a lot closer. 2) FAR better Hali water. 3) Equal access to salmon although Capitola is closer to Soquel Hole by about 3 or more miles. 4) Usually much less swell/waves at Capitola with 2 Main points to the North (Pleasure & Lighthouse) to breakdown predominant waves instead of just 1 (Lighthouse) at Santa Cruz. 5) Your about 5 or more miles closer to ME and I might be persuaded to help with funding if invited to join you.
Tight lines,
Wade
P.S. I might still be persuadable if you choose S.C.

Thanks for the detailed information Wade. This is just what I was looking for. It is definitely going to happen, but now it looks like it will not happen until the spring.
