1087, Fishing SB Tues am???
Posted by Moondoggie, Mon Nov-13-00 03:37 PM
Anyone up for some kayak/tubin tomorrow am? I was thinking about hitting the cematery area? I have been diving and have seen some pretty big halis in close. A friend spooked a 40+lb fish on the coast in 10 feet of water..... This is generally the time when I see bigger fish in tight to the shore.

Email me with your number if you want to fish tomorrow am 10 am high tide, I think that a dawn patrol is the time to go.

Marco,

Can't make it on a work day but where is this cemetary area you're talking about?

Pete,
I think he's talking about the place on east beach, to the eastern most part, past the volleyball courts, over by the bird refuge.

Thanks Brian. I've considered going out there a few time but haven't made it yet.

I surf fished there once, a long time ago. It was kind of a disaster. Actually, that could probably qualify as another fish story, but it's waaaaay to long to type out. Maybe if I get really bored tonight...

Everyone, I'm going to tube Goleta Beach by the stairs Thursday and probably also Friday morning. I'll only stay in the water until 8:30 on Thursday unless I'm getting bit. I did a little surf casting plastics this morning in fear or the colder water but it was beautiful out there. Anyone who wants to join me just meet up just before dawn at the end of the parking lot at GB nearest the stairs(UCSB side) for the walk over. I'll be in the water while its still dark. The water looks too good not to hold halibut.

Marco, I do want to sign up for the SB Sportfishing Club. Do I toss the small fee to you?

I was thinking of tubing Friday morning so maybe I'll meet you out there. If you go out Thursday post your results. I was either thinking there or Ledbetter.

I'll be there at 5:45. I want to fish the campus point side of the bay so we have a 10 minute walk over there before we can get in. I might show a wee bit earlier, but I'll start walking around then. Brian #2 are you using a float tube?

Yeah ill be tubing, i still am unsure if im gonna go or not, but if im not there by 5:45 go ahead and start walking. I should meet you on the far right of the Goleta beach parking lot right?

Facing the water, yes. I'll be walking out towards the stairs by campus.

Frank,

Did you (or you guys) go? If so how was it. I'm probably heading out tomorrow (Friday morning) but I can't decide whether to hit that area, the area near the rock, or go down to Ledbetter. Let me know how you did.

Pete

Brian #2 and I met up and fished off the stairs at Goleta Beach. We got 2 short halibut at about 12, 20 inches from 6-8am. Both came from the area around 2 lobster pot bouys outside of the stairs. It was damn cold. I need some neoprene gloves for mornings like that. I checked the water vis on the way in and it was pretty poor. About 6 feet or so. Also, there is a lot more eel grass and kelp in the water there than there was 1 or 2 months ago. We had to move out beyond where I normally fish to find some clearer sandy bottom.

Pete, I'll fish with ya tomorrow anywhere in the SB area you want. I wouldn't mind going down by the cemetary or Ledbetter if you like. Lemme know where you wanna go.
