10972, Trinidad vs. Torium

I've been talking to alot of anglers who own Trinidads compare them to Toriums. All of them say that if they had to do it over again they would go with the Toriums. One guy even told me that the drag system on the Torium 30 is stronger than his Trini 30. He said that the Tor has a dry drag system and holds up better than his Trini which is a wet drag system. Does anyone who's fished both tell me if it's true and how would you compare the two. Thanks!

I have both reels in various sizes. I 've been using the Trini.16 ( I had 2 ) alot for most of my inshore and Albacore fishing around a year now. I also have a Trini12 that I use with #15 line.

When the Torium came out, I got two 16s and a 20. I later sold one of the 16s. The first thing that I notice about the Torium is that the drag is more "responsive". It was easier to lock down without using all of the adjustment range. When I took the reel apart, I noticed that it has a drag washer under the main gear instead of the usual teflon type ( a tweak recommended by reel experts ). The drag washers seemed to be of the same material as the Trini but that 's only my guess. Time will tell how durable it is.

The Toriums also cast a little better. I was able to cast anchovies with my Torium 20 on my last few trips, just enough to get the bait swimming away from the boat.

Finally, the Trinis will scratch so easily that most will start to look bad after a few trips. The Torium is dark grey so scratches doesn't look as bad.
