11410, Best line for the money?

I've been using the Stren original for a long time and wonder if there are better lines for the money? I use 12, 14, 17 and 20 lb. What do you pros you? Fongser, Larry...etc?

I don't know if I qualify as a pro, but I prefer Trilene Big-game for most things 20# and up. For the lighter stuff I prefer Trilene XL for spinning gear and P-line CXX for most baitcasting gear especially aroung kelp. The P-line Flourocarbon (NOT FlouroClear!) is good for leaders.

Hi, I am flattered you want my opinion, thanks. I really like Izor Platinum for my casting reel bass fishing whether salt or fresh. I have used it in 8, 10, 12, 15, 20, 25# with no probs. I like it because it is a good price, has great abrasion resistance and breaks higher than rated. Nice green tint, too. For spinning, I just started using Izor XXX Super Mono in 6#. It is a little thinner than Platinum and limper, too. It is not as limp as Trilene XL obviously, but it won't break or abrade as easily. XL is what I used to use a lot for spinning--I'll use up mine for trouting. For spinning, one could even use the next test lighter as XXX also breaks higher than stated. Overall, I like green or green-smoke color for inshore or freshwater. For offshore, I like clear or blue Izor, clear Big Game--two totally different types of line characteristics. Izor is fatter, stiffer; Big Game is a touch thinner, limper. I used to be more picky about my offshore line when I did more of that kind of fishing, lol. I hope this helps you.

I have been reading good things about Izor's XXX "Super Mono", but the press release I have seen labels a new Izor line simply "XXX Mono". Is XXX Super Mono different from XXX Mono?

Thanks.

Bob

We are talking about the same line. I might be mistaken adding 'super' onto the XXX.

Correction: >What do you pros you?

Should be "What do you pros use?"

I too have started using both Izor Platinum and XXX. Neither are great lines, but I change my line every few weeks so the price is right. I also really like Triple Fish Camo, but I'm not sure about it in clear water. Thus the switch. I like the Yozuri Hybrid, it is more money but it holds up much longer. What I don't like is the smoky blue color. If I can ever find it in lighter weights in clear, I'll be using it much more.

Izor Platnum.

I haven't tried the XXX yet.

I did some "line wrestling" tonight;-) I tied two lines together and pulled them apart to see which line is stronger. The result was amazing...

12 lb STREN ORIGINAL beats 15 lb CUDA and 15 lb ANDE (about 15 years old but fresh from spool, made in Germany; I don't know if that made any difference). The later two were about the same. I am curious to find out about other lines.

Stren almost always over tests. What were the diameters of each line? I bet Stren was the thickest. The # test that they put on the spool doesn't mean much, compare diameters and you get a better idea of which line is better. Obviously a thicker line will be more visible and shorter casting.

The 12 lb STREN was .030 mm or .012"; way thinner than the other two. I wish I had other brands to test.

For the money it's hard to beat Izor Platinum. I've been using this stuff for years without a problem. I prefer it to everything else from 6 to 20#.

I saw the Big Game at Walmart the other day. They have them in green, clear and peach. Anyone ever use peach? For inshore, I fish around the rocks and like to use high visible line with smaller green leader line. I wonder if the peach is more visible than the florescent blue Stren that I use?
