Me and Mikey Took the Salty Balls out last night and met up with Team Striper Josh and his father inlaw Joe for some Bassin and a session of hoop neting. I got out to the wall @ 5pm fish were on the chew all night with the best fish over 3.5 lbs. After dark we dropped the nets in and pull after pull were disapointed. After 5 hours of netting we finally got a couple of nice bugs (allot of work).I think between the two boats we got over 25 fish and a few bugs. All fish were taken on a 4" Big Hammer swimbaits. I was using purple prism and seinorita colors. It was a great night we all had fun. The amount of good fishing you can get to in California off a small boat is amazing (you got to love it)

Hey Okiebug, those lobster are awesome! I understand the season ends this week. Do you think you can give me some pointers for next season. I read an article on how to use the hoop nets after reading your post. I can't wait for next season now. Do you think you can post a crash course for me on hoop netting and some good spots to try around the Long Beach / L.A. Harbor area? I would apreciate it. By the way, great pics!

Hey Okie,
Nice sandie & bugs! Is it illegal to take bugs after dark? I thought so, but please clarify! Was that at the Redondo "WALL" AKA Rocky Point or just near the break-wall? For the bugs, did you use mackeral for bait or chicken or?
Thanks for a response.

hey bug,
is the mackeral best if it is a little "ripe" or does it work best fresh. Sounds like fun, is the season over already or does it end next weekend? Any way ill have to try and get on that next year. It was fun meeting you at the fred hall show and you where right about that book, its awesome.

Dan,
The last day is tomarrow 3-17-04. Closed Thurs. 3-18-04 through Oct. 1st. Then opens Sat. 10-2-04. Another trick is to have a small container of mussels tied to your hoop-net with poked holes for venting the scent. Fresh mackeral is fine with this addition. I never tried "ripe" macks.

Hey Dan
That book is bad ass Im almost done Im goint to try some of the GPS# this summer. Ive had great luck with fresh dead and rank macs If the bugs crawl they eat anything. The most important thing is current, tide change and moon phase as always. Im going out on the last day tomarrow maybe next year we can hook up for a session.
