Launch and Return: Shelter Island, 7am-12:30am

Totals: 7 Sandies, all legal. Best fish 3.5lb

Baits: T-rigged Assalt California Spyder Grub in Black w/Chart (best for the night). skirt. T-rigged Assalt Ringer Worm in smoke/red flake. T-rigged Renegade 5" tubes.

Scent: self-made

Conditions: At launch time; Calm, glassy, and almost worm. Sky was clear despite impending STORM. By about 10pm, it was getting chilly as the wind picked up, and lighting was visible behind Pt. Loma. The Storm stayed off the coast until well after I got home at 2:30am. Water was about 67º and seemed only slightly off-color. Tide was a decent 4.5' drop, but it died out around 10pm also. Shelter always seems to be about 1-1.5hrs from my SD tide chart.

Special Comments: Lot's of short-biters this night, leading to lot's of empty swings. Broke off a couple bigger units too. Spyder Grub was the ticket, especially after the tide stopped, then you could slowly drag it across the bottom for bites. The lack of water movement killed the bite we had going, after 10pm it was very hit and miss.

Best part of the night was that a fellow yak angler showed up to join me. Steve P. turned out to be a great guy and we had lot's in common. So, even when the bite slowed we had lot's to talk about, mostly about church and God. It was Steve's first time fishing a yak at night and I think he liked it. The boat traffic was really light, which made for a nice mellow night.

Fishing definitely was slow for night sand bassing, but it could've been much worse.

Areas fished: Stayed between the ramp and the pier; fished from 8'-55'.
