Watched the sunrise from the tip of Zuniga jetty as I have many times before. Sculpin were there in full force. One could gather as many as one wanted with a purple Jetty Worm, if one so desired. I got 9 bites in 10 cast. The bass were much harder to come by. I worked the big jetty for about 2 hours resulting in numerous scuplin, several sandies, 2 calicos and a brown rockfish.
One of the Zuniga sandies. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v388/fishtricks/100_1194.jpg
And today’s best calico 2.25lbs. Now why would I ever, stop doing this? http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v388/fishtricks/100_1196.jpg
Moved over to the submerged jetty and hammered a few more fish. Got the first “bass slam†of the day. At this point I had caught about 25 fish and decided to give the old bait barges a visit. The barge area was EXCELLENT for sandies. I caught almost 20 nice sandies in about an hour, without even moving the boat. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v388/fishtricks/100_1216.jpg I got a little blades in my pocket going ching-a-ling-a-ling and I’m still your loverboy.
How about 2 at a time? http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v388/fishtricks/100_1211.jpg
It was ridiculously good sandbass fishing . It was so easy I got bored after one hour, but right before I left I caught this 2.25lb spotty. Not only was this my second slam of the day, but it was an official 2.25lber slam!!! Niiiiiiiiiiice! http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v388/fishtricks/100_1220.jpg Forget all that you see,… It’s not reality,…It’s just a fantasy…
At this point I looked at my watch and had 2 hours left to fish. I thought to myself, “Wow, what If I topped this excellent day off with a legal hali,…Dare I try?†I decided to see if I could catch a legal halibut with my last 2 hours.
I SWEAR TO GOD, this was my first cast going after halibut. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v388/fishtricks/100_1227.jpg I pulled up to the grassy flats around N.island, and threw the spinbomb right at the rocks in 2’ of water. I started it up and rolled it about 6’ and BOOM!!! Fish on! I knew it was a halibut immediately and slammed the trolling motor into reverse to get out to deeper water and grabbed the net. Eventually, I saw the fish and my mood changed dramatically. I backed off my drag and traded the net for a gaff. Long story shortened… http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v388/fishtricks/100_1228.jpg Nothing in the fishing world is as intense as trying to land a big fish when you are alone. Great day!! Finished by 1pm. OIXXX!!!
