The wife and I had plans of getting some bait and drifting for halis today, but sometimes plans change. We were short on time so we opted to just chuck lures for a while. My wife knows how to fish, but has very limited lure experience and doesn’t use baitcasting gear at all. I did most of the boat positioning and most of the casting, while Maria did most of the finessing and catching. My wife quickly developed a nice zig zag, stop and go type retrieve which proved deadly on the male sandies. I was proud.

We pulled about 6 sandies, a few bonitos, and one big rocker fish off of the jetty. I can’t believ how hard this rockfish fought. I thought I had a 3-4lb calico.

Time everlasting. Time to play B sides.

Then I took her inside and introduced her to the Sandbass Shuffle. She nailed 5 Sandies in 6 cast and found out the hard way that long lining sandies is taxing on the arms.

Mariscos gratis y frescas. We kept 6 sandies and threw everything else back. Talk to Ron and Deena for a bit at the ramp(it was like couples day on the bay). Saw several other guys working the Jetty. How’d everybody do? We fished form 9am till Noon.

Sidenote; The meat on these little sandies this time of year is pristine. Clear with a nice pearly opaqueness. Not the typical white. The one fish I checked was full of 2-3” rocks crabs. OIXXX!!
