Went down to north Laguna for a little tubing at a new spot for me. Surf was there but I had a sheilded launch. Boilers didn't fire so I went out deeper to 25-30ish. Got 2 legal calicos, 1 legal sandy, 1 short 'but and 1 short calico in 2 1/2 hours fishing. 4 and 5 inch big hammers in the new rock crab and calico hunter w/ red flake worked well. All bit on the intitial drop or drop portion of the crank-and-drop retrieve. Fished 9-11:30, during that time I was visited by a pack of young pup seals--they're so curious. Also saw a huge pod of dolphins at El Moro only about 30 yds. off the beach. All fish released.

Close to Blue Roofs were we? Do you fish swimbaits exclusively, or is it more of a phase? Just curious. I'm still trying to get out in Laguna. Schedule is packed though, and I always seem to end up in SD when I can tube. Have you tried the Poaches area yet?

What's up, Ed? Hey, just for a lark I was throwing a brush hog on a 3\4 oz. head, black w\ red flake, damn if that thing didn't look like a lobby. Too bad there was no current at all, the bass had lockjaw, but I love fooling around with the freshwater stuff for the chessboards.

No not up there--I don't know any rich folks there to let me in! I was off seal rock.

Chris, I've found the that Zippers are one of the best for plaid bass, but have really tried the freaks yet. Spotties sure love them though. Steve is now able to scratch out a few handpours here and there. I made a bad mold for him, but a better one is being finished. Can't wait to pour calico specific colors. I'm also working on a design for a cross species, fresh/salt jerkbait. We'll see how that goes though. When are you going to come down here for some winter spottie action?

David, how was the walk down to the beach? Did you fork out the quarters, or make the long haul from across PCH? That place has much potential, but I'm not too sure how far out the reefs go. It's hitting that time when one really needs a yak and a finder to get out to the deeper stuff. I too would've fished today, but the boss had other plans. SD Bay can really go in bad weather.

Ed, let's hook up after the holidays and fish the bay, that would be cool! I dumped a big bass on the AC at LMV this evening, ouch!!!

I'm sorry for loss, I know it must hurt. How big was it? Hopefully, my brother will be getting a membership next year. Then I can try for a few there too. I know there's some big ones in there.

As for SD Bay, I think Brian will be coming down soon also. Maybe another a south Calfishing gathering should be done? I fished it yesterday, check my report for more details.

Damn, Ed, no waders? Jeez!! Nice that you thumped the bass. I don't know how big my long lost bass was, I was looking down, felt the thump, set the hook, looked over to see water raining down, the AC was tossed over the buoy line I was fishing, tail was ripped off, man it looked like someone dropped an anvil in the water aka Wile E. Coyote- she was big!
