My cousin and his friend fish the bay on his friends boat almost every weekend and they always catch fish in the usuall spots. Coast Guard dock area, PCH bridge and the outer main channel. Lots of short butts, sandies, spotties, pesky macs and some short barries, as well. He tells me it gets better every outing so, yes, I think it's starting. Does anyone know the status on the Davey Locker skiffs? Are they still running or have they stopped the operation like the rumors said?

The bay is about to bust open soon. Follow the tides and you will be fine like always.

As far as the skiffs go, I heard that they are there as long as the restaurant people will allow them. According to Davies' they came to some sort of agreement. So there here for now.

I'm surprised somone has not opened a littel rental spot w/ 10-12ft alum boats for rent. The bathtubs that Davies' rents suck. (I say that now that I have my own boat)

YES they are and out in full force,I fished today for 5 Halis (2 legals)and a good wack on the bass including one 18in TOAD SPOT(fish had to be pushin 4lbs with the size of gut on this dude)and a croacker. It wasnt WIDE yet but its gettin there. My target for the trip was really the WSB but they just werent dancin. Last week I got into a WFO seabass bite and managed to land 8 fish (between 20-27in)
and lost a legal fish(which i had almost landed) to a sealion after a good 5min battle. It was AWESOME and when you do get a hold of these fish they are ready to rock taking 10-20 yard runs at times, but when their there thier there and when thier not thier not. Also landed a
TOAD sandie (21in) that was pushin 5lb also with a huge gut on him,
and couple of flatties. BUT as far as the seabass i can not figure out what makes them go OFF so hard one day and its dead the next.if somebody else figures em' out ????? let me know(haha) untill next time......

fished the bay on Wednesday..............managed 8 flatties
(one legal) on 4 lb test! 3 WSB, and one toad sandie. All my fish came on the drop shot. A new plastic called flashtrix by Mike Gash, the same guy who makes the basstrix. There about 4 in and are killer, everything eats the "flash" looks like a tiny smelt!!!!

Thanks for the info. I've been hearing alot of good things from Newport Bay. I would go out if I didn't mess up my back. I've seen the seal lions go by me when I'm tubing but that's it. They have never tried to steal a fish I had on. Any fish I keep goes in a little livewell I have. I even had a small pod of dolphins swim by me at Belmont. I need to get out there before I go to Ensenada again. Thanks again.

Over at Grissom Island a guy named Chris "Little Fish" Moody had a seal bite off a piece of his Force Fin! He said he sent it back and they said to just pick one up at Sport Chalet. A couple of weeks ago while at Cherry Beach tubing my buddy I was fishing with called me on my 2-way radio and warned me that there was a seal right behind me. I turned around to see and it went under and to the other side of me. He kept doing this real close so I just splashed the water with my 4' gaff and it swam away. After hearing about that surfer being attacked in Hermosa or wherever I wasn't going to take any chances. LOL.

I fished the bay Saturday out of a Daveys skiff. I like the guys who run it but I must say that the boats are in horrible condition. Looks like they have not been cleaned in years and the cushions are all torn up. BUT they do stay afloat and the motors work great. My buddy and I fished in the am for 6 bass-only 2 keepers, 5 croaker,3 small halibuts and about a 4 foot shark. All fish were released. Most were caught on plastic or ghost shrimp. The bait they supplied was big dines. they were getting chewed but they were just too big of a bait. for more info about fish taco chronicle look at www.fishtacochronicles.com
thanks,
