Anyone have any good recommendations for a twilight out of SD. Seems like there are a ton of boats down there. I'm going in late July, early August and figured it would be a good way to get out and do a little fishing. Seaforth is the closest to where I am staying so if there's a good boat there, that would be ideal.

seaforth and islandia are top boats with awesome crews, check first with them to make sure that they'll run the twilight trip on the day you intend to go, they dont always run it during the week.

Ya Rob, Forktail is right. The Seaforth and Islandia boats both have good reputations when it comes to 1) producing fish on their local trips, whether it be 1/2 or 3/4 day, and 2) the knowledge of their crews in both finding the fish and helping you out in any way needed. Top notch if you ask someone like me who has been on many a trip from these landings. Also, since the landings are pretty much right next to eachother, the decision of which one to go out of doesn't need to involve location. But, like Forktail said, check each landing to find out what days the twilights are running cause most Southern Cal landings offer them only on weekends or from Thursday through Sunday.

I'm staying about a half mile from Lake Mirimar. Haven't taken a real good look at the map to compare distance to Dana etc. What do you think.

If your goin to be by Miramar, Dana and Oceanside would be just a little out of the way compared to the two in Mission Bay. IMO. Now, the fishing at that time might be a tad better up north and you might not mind the hour drive, but, the San Diego bite should be doing just fine so you should be ok sticking around down there. Whatever boat you might find yourself on, you should have no problem locating the fish. JMO Rob.

There is also H&M and Point Loma for twilight fishing. These landings are out of San Diego Bay (20 minutes south of Miramar). I used to be a deckhand on the Fisherman III (H&M) so my recommendation would obviously be biased. We always pulled in more fish than Point Loma! =) More info:

My buddy lives in Miramar (5 minutes away from the lake).. it's pretty much my second home. How long are you gonna be in SD?

I'm planning on hitting up Dixon at night some, a twlight trip for one night and Mirimar after work Mon/Tues.

The Big Three can be a major hassle for parking. I believe the San Diego out of Seaforth runs a twilight trip. Very nice boat that runs 3/4 day as well. I can recommend it. Parking at Seaforth & Islandia (Mission Bay) is usually not a problem.

Yeah fishslayer is right.. parking down there is a real pain in the ass.. but you could park by the hotels if you don't mind walking a little. Good luck and have fun!

Dixon.. check out whisker bay (it is surrounded by the tules so you will need to rent a boat to fish it). From the boat docks - head straight towards the damn and keep looking left.. You'll see it. There are a bunch of beds in there and I've seen at least two Double digits sitting right outside of the beds in there.. (this was on the same day that Brian was there) One of em came charging outta the tules on my first cast w/ a 7" Senko. I saw the tules -- out of the water -- SPLIT as the monster charged out of its hiding spot! It did'nt even stop to look at my bait and quickly turned around and swam right back in. It took about 3 seconds for that thing to accelerate out and back into the tules. I almost ##### in my shorts! I threw everything I could at the same spot but it never stuck its head back out again. I caught some small ones dropshotting in there but nothing significant.

Also.. check the area between Jack Creek Cove and Peir #3 in the Trout cove area. There is another bed there... Bass point is another good spot. Dixon is a tiny lake and you could pretty much fish the entire lake in a day. Overall that day was pretty slow for me.. but I got there late. Lotsa weeds right now.. Good luck.

Definitely Seaforth. I have never been impressed with Islandia except for John Henderson and the Phoenix. Seaforth's crews work hard, will do anything to get you to the fish and you can believe that what they report with regard to fish caught is the absolute truth.
