7646, A short report?
Posted by AmishEd, Sun Sep-08-02 02:17 PM
Yep, sorta. My back is out and I need to get back onto the couch.

Dana Point, 9-7-02
launch: 7am at baby beach
Land: 1:00pm

Went straight to the point (about an hour paddle). That last swell wiped out at least 75% of the kelp. Made for an extra 1/2mile paddle. Fished lots of stuff, but only one thing worked (best color last time too). Watermelon /red flake! Used up my Powerpulse worms in that color and used 4" tubes the rest of the time. Out of 6 or 7 legals and some 15 shorts only one fish was caught on another color, a pumpkin /black flake tube.

Nothing else of any consequence, except a solid 7# calico on my last cast. Got it on 6# (which I used all day in the kelp and never lost a fish). It corn holed me 5 times, smoked drag a bunch more times, and basically worked me on my 8'6" steelhead rod. Best calico in three years. It took me a minute of looking before I realized I didn't have a camera. Dang, Dang, Dang.

That is sweeeeet Ed! The surf was so big at Creek today that I was almost out to those kelp beds for a while...could have fished out there if I had a pole...lol!

Thanks guys. It is my fish of the year. Haven't had one over 5 in 2 or 3 years, so it was very rewarding.
