9219, Back after a little time out...

...of the water. The last month has been really busy w/ almost no water time. But, I did finally make it out this weekend. Steve and I hit Shelter on Sat morning; launched around 6:30, out by around 11.

Fishing was less than optimal, though we did manage a few. I had 7 legals and 5 shorts. Steve had a bout the same. Steve had the biggy of the day, a sandy about 3.5. He was fishing mostly a 3.5" Tight Line grub (clear/red flake). I had a few nicer 2+spotties. I had 2 good baits, a brown and orange 3.5" grub and the zipper shad (went through all I had in 3 different colors), both by Tight Line. I did get my first saltwater blade fish too. One of the big spotties just hammered a white and chartreuse 3/8oz. Matsuo. Dumped a couple crank fish too. A little shrimp salt seemed to help before the tide shifted.

Over conditions left a bit too be desired. Fish were scattered inside (like 0-25') and the meter showed nothing in deeper water, though we pulled some up out there. Cold and breezy at launch, cold and windy by 8, and cool and very windy by 9. Ripping current due to a near 7' swing, but the south wind gave us a very wierd drift. Long cast a 1/2-3/4oz. of weight and it wasn't hitting bottom before it had past you. Lots of paddling just to stay ahead of the bait.

Overall, it was a fun day on the water. A much needed break after way too long of a break from the water.
