Last night while grunion hunting, 4 times I saw (probably short)halibut splash out of 4 inch whitewash into deeper water........ Too many weeds to fish where I was last night, but if the water were cleaner, it would have been wide open.

We were in Santa Barbara, near the harbor.

I was there a little after 11 for a little over an hour. At most, I saw about a dozen fish, otherwise it was just singles up to about 4 or 5, no big schools.

Going again tonight, it was so much fun!

Grunion Hunting is always a kick in the tail. The North San Diego County Beaches have, in the past, always been generous in the yields of those little silver fish.

I was introduced to them years ago when we built huge fires in the available concrete rings on the beach and would carry hotdogs and roast marshmellows over the fire. We had our flashlights and all the time the older guys were fishing for Spotfins and Corbina.

Aztecwin was usually trying to make a play on several of the available cute females that were of his age at the time.:7 :-) :7

Those were good days!!

Tight Lines! :P

My girl is from Switzerland, and after watching Run lola Run, I dragged her down to the beach at 11pm..... without explaination......

after about 15 minutes of walking on the beach, little light in hand, she was cold and sandy...

look

there

did you see it?

no.....

I had not explained the phenomena to her because I did not want it to seem like a "likely story" if the grunion were not running.... and after seeing 5 fish zigging away in the wash and she missed them... I really needed to catch one to prove my point and redeem myself, before even any explaination, or there was going to have to be some splaining to do..... : )

After I caught the first one, the light went on in her eyes and the next thing I know, we are both knee deep, laughing chasing fish......

It was a great night.... I would love to see the faces of her friends back home as she trys to splain that night....

: )
