Awesome picture inside your garage. Always makes me happy to see a fish like that in someones garage. Thanks for the stellar input.

What an odd photo. It looks to me like the guy was on a camping trip, caught a decent bass, stuck it in his cooler for a week, then took a photo of it after arriving home. The fish is totally dried out. Weird.

Here are some closeup pics of the dried out fish in question:

Basically he's is implying that the fish in the photo is now dead because it was in dudes garage. I guess this ones dead too right?

I am not implying anything, I am stright up telling you that that fish is in fact no longer living. It is dead. And I think it is a shame. Just me though, I hope all the "You have no right" people just let it go. But I doubt it.

Did that dude do something illegal?
Fishing in a 'No Fishing' area?
Fishing without a valid fishing license?
Kept a fish in a 'No Take' area?
I have caught A LOT of trophy bass, and released them all.
That's just how I roll; everybody does it a little differently.
I still do not get what this thread is all about.

Some people expect...and insist...that everyone release every LMB whether it is legal to keep one or not. They especially get insistent when it is a trophy bass. It has been a debating point for years in the LMB fishing community.

I resemble this statement, except, I dont think you should have to release EVERY LMB just the trophy fish (over 10lbs). I hate to see a dead girl. x(

A question, if I may.
How many 'trophy' bass have you caught (caught and released)?
10597, RE: Nice Fish DAVE ROBERTS,,,
Posted by jmkiernan, Wed Sep-17-08 08:12 PM
18 fish over 10lbs. Every one released. And very proud of it. I get a rush every time I put one back in the water and watch her swim away. I would be willing to bet that most true big bass guys (Not that I consider myself one by any means) feel the same way and hate to see one dead. In fact I know this. Dont try and have an issue with me Capt'n. Please dont defend killing trophy bass.

I agree with you and have never kept a LMB even though I have never gotten one in the double digits. It kills me to see shore fishermen keeping stringers of bass...but what can you do. It is legal for them to do so.

In the good news department, there are a couple thousand photos of some very nice sized bass in the calfishing galleries that have been released. California is a great place when it comes to catch and release bass fishing and I count myself as very fortunate to live here, and to have the opportunity to re-catch giant bass on a surprisingly regular basis.

As disappointing as it is to see a photo of a big dead bass, it is equally disappointing that we don't spend more time celebrating the positive aspects of catch and release. It's something most of us take for granted, but we should all remember to accentuate the positive stories (like re-catching the same big bass, or sharing it with a friend a year later). The more people that understand just how cool that is, the better off we all are as trophy fishermen.

Rob is right, check out the photo of Trever Bray in the photos section. What a beautiful fish, and near the water. Nice job Trever. I just cant help saying something when I see dead fish, maybe I should have just praised Trever instead of firing off on Dave. I am sure the point would have been made in a more positive manner.
Sorry if I offended anyone.

Hey I understand completely. I go to my favorite East Bay lakes and see a dead teener on the photo board and it hurts me. But when I think hard about what the right response to that is, I'm not certain that the right response is to blast that guy. That's just the kneejerk response.

I think the right response is education and positive attention toward the 'right' behavior.

To make a corny analogy that you have probably heard before...

The wind and the sun make a bet on who can get a man to take his jacket off.
The wind blows and blows, but the man just pulls his jacket tighter
The sun takes it's turn and shines brightly
The man takes his jacket off

When a guy gets his first really big bass, he wants to share it with his friends. Let his friends see it. Let people know about his catch. I know that feeling for sure. One way to do it is to bring the fish home and hang it on the wall, or take a photo in the garage. That's the safe bet when you have no camera and skeptical friends.

Some guys do that and get slammed for it. Usually on the internet. That's a bad spot to be in because you just wanted to share your catch and get some positive attention, but instead you got bashed. When you put someone in a defensive position like that, their response may very well be to say something like, "it's my right". "I can keep a bass if I want to."

Now trying to make the situation better has made it worse. I'm not saying it always works out like that, but it seems to.

I hope that whoever Dave Roberts is that:

1. The photo is not just a cheap troll to make people upset.
2. When he catches his next big bass, he'll take the time to post a photo here, and get some positive reinforcement in return.

Dave, if you're reading this, may I suggest some reading on being prepared for your next big bass catch? Here's the link:

Rob, you are a smart man.
And my English is terrible at best.
I tried to say all the above necessary things with "I don't get it".

I could not agree more about what Rob said "I think the right response is education and positive attention
>toward the 'right' behavior."
I could be completely wrong on this, but I do not think Mr. Roberts is doing this to piss us all off. I little positive education and maybe he will see things "our way", and release his next big one. In the end, the choice is his (as long as he is doing it legally). There in no end in sight when it comes to telling people in 'free' countries what they can and can not do. Remember the PETA people, and I think we all agree that their position of us not fishing at all is the ultimate extreme view on the aforementioned topic.
