11534, Goals for the new year

Must be that time of year, I hear the holiday music at the mall and my mind wanders off to fishing... spring time fishing, with sunny days and clear water and bug eyed bass and.... Oh crud it's December :)

Last year my goal was to win one team tourney and catch one over 15. The former went ok with the Sluggest tourney, the latter not quite. It was my worst year on double digit bass since I started doing this thing. Just one fish over 10 this year, a 12 pounder. Had some good looks from 15+ fish on beds but no biters. We had our chances at more tournament wins too, but things just kept going a little wrong.

This year I'm going to be boring and stick with the same goals.

What are your goals for 2010?

My goal is to compete in a real SWBA tournament or two next year. I plan to take on the guys at Newport Bay for sure in September.

My work schedule is going to be bad next year for prime bass fishing. I will make it back to Clear Lake in the spring though :-)

At least one DD bass. I didn't get one over 10 this year. I did catch a lot of 6-8 pound fish this year. That's a good sign.

Repower my boat to a 4 stroke

Fist get my boat running and out far more this year than last year. Second, I'm still looking for a my first double digit bass hopefully I will get it this year. Third, I want to continue to diversify my fishing knowledge. I want to hit more lakes that I have never fished before and I want and I want to try to catch a Sturgeon.

Another teener largemouth out of the delta

An oversize sturgeon

Ranger Z21i (Intracoastal). I miss my bay boat and I love my bass boat so a salty bass boat may be the ultimate!

Since this is the trophy forum, my goal should be to catch a spotted bass over 2 pounds. That's a trophy bass right there. I love lake McClure!

Last year my goal was to catch some hard bait fish. I completely forgot about this goal, but I did try anyway with less than great results. I still had a fun year with a pb 36 lb striper from the beach, and a couple months straight of epic pencil popper/ms slammer striper action. Largemouths were cruel this year; swimbait fishing was at an all-time low. Doing regular fishing came through with 9 over 10 and 2 over 15, but it was super tough fishing. Then there was Mexico...

Next year I'd like to get a new personal best and win a tournament.

Nico, you make me so jealous. I only have 1 over 10 for my entire fishing lifetime....

My goals this year is simple:
At least 1 Largie over 10 lbs (preferably during a tournament!)
1 Team boat tournament win
1 striper over 20 lbs
Spend more days (even if it is 20 casts) on the water (only did about 40 days in 2009...and I live 3 miles from the Delta!)
Take my kid out fishing more!

I caught 1 big bass in 09. A 15.01
This year I would like to get 5 over 10 and 1 teener and actualy spend a few days catching regular bass.
I would also like to organize all my tackle. Its bad.
In 09 I came very close to breaking 2 all tackle world records on saltwater fish. I caught several bat rays that were over 150 lbs and the WR is only 181. I went about 5 times and 3 of those times I was knocking on the door. Maybe in 2010. The othe species I didnt realize the record was soo beatable and I was also very close on that one. I think I will break 1 of them this year.

That fish was bigger than 15 Matt.

My goals... get my life in order, make sure that my daughter has everything that she needs, have fun and try to smile more. If after all that there is time to get the boat wet, that's a bonus.

Merry Christmas everyone and I hope you all make your goals for 2010.

My goals for next year is to be better in landing fish. I had a good year but it could've been better. I have lost several DD's this year due to inexperience (trying to scoop them with the net instead of leading them in). Those lessons were all too painful and yet I keep repeating them. I need to stay focused and not get too excited. A 15+ would also be nice.:-)

Combat I used to loose big bass because I got too careful. Once I got over the shock of big bass I started fighting them agresively and I took controll. I rarley loose them anymore.

More DDs, a teen bed fish would be nice; and a lake record out of Jennings! LMAO

DDs are always good!

I have caught DDs bed fishing, but no teeners; and I've fished for a few.

If I fish hard, I feel a lake record at Jennings is very possible EVENTUALLY. I have fished for one that was easily a lake record, have seen another fish that was also bigger; and have caught one that was less than a pound away. I know I can catch one that big, just need a little bit of luck; and time. LOL And if/when I do catch it; Mr. Mike will just take it back anyway :P ! hahahaha LMAO

Other goals are non-fishing. Hunt more mainly.

No DDs for me in 09'; which sucks! Biggest was 9 pounds 14 ounces; and should have been WAY BIGGER than ten. One of those super long fish. SUCKS! Caught other 9 pounders as well. To the point where 8s and 9s are fun, but they almost annoy you. LOL Caught a lot of swimbait fish this year; just need to upgrade some in 2010. Lets all do that and make it interesting :)!

Also, Combat if you don't mind; not sure which net you use but you may want to check out the Promar LN 501B. That's a bad dude! I know Rob uses it, Greg Ross does too; and it's the best thing I bought this year! It's giant, looks "overkill"; but it's really easy to scoop fish up with. I have even used it in SMALL rental boats and it works great. For big bass; I feel it's almost a must.

Good luck to everyone in the New Year!

Thanks Matt. I do fight the fish agressively and try and get them to the boat as quick as possible.

Arden, I bought the Promar 501B after Greg recommended it. I agree it's a must although it takes half the space in my little jon boat!
