I was wondering if any of you "trout imitators" have fished these plugs or seen results on them. Do they compare with swimbaits? Any thoughts or opinions?

I have no experience with the Z-Plugs, so I can't really say much about them. I hear they have a serpentine like action. I have one A.C. plug and it swims ok, but it's ugly and I have no reason to throw it. I don't think either one could compare with the M.S. Slammer, although they have a different action so I guess they have a place.

ya i hear alot about this m.s. slammer, and i might have to get one. $30 is pretty steep though. i guess compared to a rago its pocket change. whats your color? size? i checked them out and the 9" dark rainbow looked good to me.

I bought one at BWW and the next day I went to Pyramid and got one follow of two fish, a nice 15-20 lb striper and an easy 8-10 lb largemouth swimming right along side him. That was an easy justification for me. The truth is in the pudding.

Yeah, the dark rainbow is the color to get.

If your a little hesitant about the price, just think of it this way. You're gonna be working it on top or fairly shallow, so losing it to a snag is almost impossible. The only way you're ever going to lose this lure is if you catch something big and you tied a bad knot or were using to light of line. Plus, you have a much bigger chance of sticking something big than if you went out and bought five crankbaits that you'll eventually lose to snags anyway.

I have fished dozens of different a.c style baits. When they first came out the big thing was making your own. I have a collection of about 15 different ones that friends have given me over the years. As far as the ac plug every one i ever fished swam a little different. The z plug I have fished quite a few times also. greg silks the owner of the company make 2 different plugs. His original one is a one piece plug. This plug has thinned out a little bit over the years. He also makes his 2 piece model that is like the ac but has bucktail at the end instead of a worm king. Both baits I have watched land a large amount of ten + bass.

thanks for that info ericH. have you fished other big baits also? if so, which is your favorite? these guys have me pretty sold on the slammer but i am widening my arsenal at the moment so any proven lures will be thrown in there.

My favorite baits are a couple of ones that were given to me by friends. The swim action on them is by far better then the ac, slammer or z. One of them has caught over 25 ten pounders(not by me though, shucks). The baits are a lot of fun and pretty simple to make(it just takes time). It sure is cool catching a bass on one of your own baits also. By the way after you build one you find that $30 is really a fair price.
