i keep hearing about you catching big bass on the big wood. and now that dfg is planting trout at silverwood ,which is close to my house and the stripers are hitting. i figured it was time to get out there. the only problem is i dont want to go spend hundreds of dollars trying to find out which plugs works. so overall which is the best big wood plug??

You won't be disappointed with the 9" MS Slammer as far as wooden plugs go. Also try the Castaic Soft Bait Trout. These are two "classics" that should produce anywhere - just keep trying.

I have been hearing that Silverwood is making a decent comeback lately. Some guys from the area sent some nice pics of stripers to 25lbs to Mike Shaw a few months ago. You can see them on the msslammer.com site. Stripers are big and like a bit bait, so 9 or 12" is appropriate. If you are just going to buy one or two baits I would probably buy a wooden bait just because stripers will rip to shreds the big rubber ones.

While were on the subject of the MS Slammer... Im using a 7 1/2 Comp. Edge flippin and pitching stick to throw the Castiac Trout(w/ plastic head)Would a 9" slammer be feasible to throw on the rod. The trout doesnt feel overly heavy on it. Thanks for the feed back.

the castaic trout feels heavier to me so your pole should have no problem handling it.

the trout weighs what..4 or five ozs? a slammer only weighs as much as three.
