238, Fave techniques for 25#+ WSB?

Monterey has been kicking out MASSIVE Ronkies on squid. BUT I don't want bait on my Tube, so what do I do? In other words: What's your favorite lure technique for massive WSB.

Um what about squid, LOL
Squid is kind of hard to beat. You might get bit fishing a white jig like a tady 4/0 or even a tady 45. The glow backs are supposed to be good. But really, break down and bring some squid, even if it's dead and put it on your jig, or fish a whole squid on a 3/4oz leadhead.

Do you think those fish are close enough to get them from a tube? I don't know the scoop on the Monterey thing.

I've got some nice croaker throwing a really old white Starman Candy Bar jig, it's light and kicks hard, seabass like to eat it. I don't know where to get one, I think someone started making the old Starman jigs again, not sure if they are the same as the originals.

Use the squid with an egg sinker butted up to the hook eye. Cast, hit bottom, feather the spool so it lightly jumps the squid off the bottom. Or, per many magazine articles, use the squid on a white iron, drop to bottom, reel up a couple cranks, put in rod holder. Toss plastics with other rod. The smell will (might) wash off your tube?

They're at what I consider a pretty sketchy distance. If I can get my new skiff working reliably I'll take it, but right now it's a big"?".
If I can't get enough confidence in the skiff, I'll try to get someone to join me in a tube or 'yak.
Even then it'll be iffy. If a tube or dead boat was out there when the winds come up, they could be in either Sand City or out to sea in no time.
So, anyone up for some SKETCHY tubin?

Tight lines,
Wade

243, What about a Tora tube with eyes drawn on it?

Or some other squid imitator like a B-2? and how do I work it.

I haven't done a lot of fishing for whites, but I think they'll only be incidental catches on artificials unless there's a hot bite going on. If you want to target them, squid is the ticket. I'd work the artificial the same way - feather the spool to lightly jump it off the bottom. They're often in shallow, close to the beach/shore (at least in SoCal) mixed in with the bat rays if beachy.

Those bass pro XPS squid are worth a shot. I'd be interested to see how they do. Check the website.

Or straight grind swimbaits slowly.
