i believe it was somebody on this board who described skinner as a funny duck, and that's exactly what it is. ive been putting my time in for the last couple of months and have learned more about this finicky striper fishery than ive learned about any lake ive ever fished. today was their last plant for the season and another unsuccesfull trip for me. Im not sure what brings me back to that lake after being skunked so many times. anyway i fished ramp 2 for the evening where i found the regular trout fisherman at the ramp itself and bait fisherman off the point. one fellow had more than ten small stripers that he caught on some sort of bait but that doesnt interest me as i am not fishing for meat.

The fish were present indeed, because as the evening wore on the boils began to erupt. i decided to stay after the ranger told everyone to leave just because i couldnt leave boiling fish like that. after everyone had gone and the sun was dissapearing one paticular boil caught my eye, it was a trout b-lining across the lake with an un ordinarily large striper nipping at its heels. it ended quickly five feet in front of me as the trout slowed down and the striper made a surprise apearance from underneath and busted full out of the water, engulfing the trout in the air. the fish was definetly pushing 25 lbs and a gorgeous one at that. its funny because the fish i typically catch during these boils are around 7-10 lbs and are much more subtle. they just pick slower smaller trout and make a loud popping noise when they atempt to take it under. you guys might be thinking: shoot if i was there, i'd be puttin the hurt on those fish with my slammer, osprey, a.c., generic, stocker, castaic or whatever your secret bait is. and maybe your right, but until you give it a shot you'll never know. anyway it was another interesting day on the lake that might just bring me back again.
