6749, worms like those from bill murphys book?
Posted by bhb1034, Sun Jul-17-05 01:11 PM
ive looked everywhere and cant seem to find the type of worms bill murphy says to use in his book. i know lunker city makes muscle worms but there is no medium size worm. the six inch is small and the nine inch is huge. ive searched countless sites that make soft plastics and they all either have the right colors and no size selection or right sizes and not enough colors. does anybody know where to find the plastic worms that work well with the techniques described in the book?

I lurk this website frequently and read all the trophy Bass talk. I notice a lot of discussions on swimbaits and not much about "stitching". Are there still hard core stitchers out there? I'm from Wisconsin and I enjoy the Big Bass conversations.

I remember reading once that he used worms made by Delong, I'm not sure if they are still in business.

ive looked into the delong worms. they are still in business but they seem to only make mainly prerigged worms and a 16" snake worm. the book also said something about burke worms but i cant find anything about them.

I believe Delong made the very first Otay Special. 12" and dark brown with a black vein.

I still stitch on occasion. It works well at Lake Sonoma.

you think its worth stitching in a small lake where all the bass relate to sunkken trees?

to San Diego?

Lake Lower Otay... It has a maximum surface area of 20 acres with 5 miles of shoreline.

Lake San Vicente... It has 557 surface acres and 11 miles of shoreline.

Lake El Capitan... It has 1,562 surface acres and 22 miles of shoreline.

Hodges Reservoir... When full, the reservoir has 1,234 surface acres, a maximum water depth of 115 feet, and 27 shoreline miles.

THOSE are small lakes. You could fill Otay ???? times(I ain't doin' the math) with lake Sonoma

Lake Sonoma... It has 3,600 surface acres and 53 miles of shoreline. You could put all of Otay in Yorty Creek alone!

But you're right. Stitching is a waste of time there. Don't try it. Stick to drop-shotting those trees.

Those stats are straight off western bass. I fished the San Diego lakes quite a bit as a teenager in the early 80's. My grandfather and I used to fish them every weekend.
The stats are accurate.

PS- Otay has a lot of trees too. In Harvey Arm. At least it used to.

ive ordered some of those. and i know they designed by murphy but the difference between the 6" and the 9" is huge. the six inch is very thin and light and not really like what murphy said to use.

I've used the stiching technique in many small lakes around Socal. Stiching has produced some nice fish for me both on large and small waters.
