I saw that this morning as well and was a bit surprised that they would pursue the record. I wonder if they know something about that big fish that the rest of us are not privy to? I guess enough people fish down there that if that monster was found floating we would have heard something about it.

That is classy. What a message to send out. Snagging bass on beds is a legitimate form of bass fishing hooray! And its the best way to catch world record size bass! Just snag em!

I truly do not understand the mentality... Snagging bass is a zero skill deal, anyone who fishes for big bass knows that. I could snag 3 or 4 15+ pound fish a year if that was the game. BFD.

There's another SD Union Tribune article here:

http://www.signonsandiego.com/sports/outdoors/20070305-9999-lz1s5foulfair.html

It shows Mac with a replica of the fish. Excuse me but ... WTF? When you accidentally foul a fish on a bed, you toss it back and say a few swear words for not having been able to get it to bite. You don't hang it on your wall. I've lost all respect.

Eh, I don't hope they catch it....Why do they deserve to after that? After trying to take credit for a snagged bass. If I snag a fish, I feel ashamed of myself and would hardly even take a picture of it.

And to get a mount of a 25 lb bass that they snagged? To me that says, I'll go cast netting beds this spring and then get a replica of all the 10+ fish I get....Are you serious?

i always liked hearing what they said after they brought the fish to the dock. one of them asking "what could this mark on the side be". and recieving an answer well thats where you snagged it.

Here is a quote from the second article that concerns me.

“They felt the weak link was the fact the fish was foul-hooked, however, our rules state that only a fish that is foul-hooked intentionally is disqualified as a record,”

Now, how on earth would one determine whether or not someones intentions were to foul hook the fish or not? There is absolutely no way to know for sure. To me it's like saying it's ok to snag fish as long as you claim it wasn't intentional. There should be no exceptions to this. Intentions aside, the bass should be legally hooked to be considered a record.
