14985, Fishing this Sunday?
Posted by BuzzFish, Tue May-20-03 08:15 AM
Looks like I have clearance to go dip a hook somewhere and was thinking about going to the delta, maybe Middle River if thetides are right (I like an early high tide). Anyone planning on heading out?

Gotta catch some buzzfish!

A bit off-topic, but what do you do at Guitar Center? I'm a musician myself...
15039, Hey, Gordon -- what instrument(s) do you play?
Posted by jsmith, Thu May-22-03 11:54 AM
I play a little guitar myself; been playing solo at coffeehouses for years. I'll have to turn you on to a copy of my latest CD, next tourney I see you at (actually, it's my *only* CD, but it sounded good to say 'latest'!). ;-)

Might have to have a BnT *JAM SESSION* someday! Maybe at the next 2-day overnighter?

I am always up for some delta fishing, but am thinking of hitting somewhere more west to take advantage of the incoming tide in the late morning/early afternoon. High tide at big break is at 12:30 pm and low tide is at 7:45 am, so you would be able to fish the incoming tide during the morning...but launching on a low tide sucks. Middle river looks like a high tide at just after 5am, and a low tide at noon. I would prefer west delta but I am thinking that the early top water bite on a high tide at middle river might be worth the effort. Yeah, I will be at middle river if you want to hook up out there....I plan on getting there around 5:15-5:30....lets hook up.

Sounds good so far. If we do Middle River we'll need to launch at Union point and row up overthe barricade, right? I haven't talked to Swampy yet as he is still up at Clear Lake but I assume he will want to go.
14996, RE: Fishing this Sunday?
Posted by big_worm, Tue May-20-03 01:58 PM
Launch at Union point yeah. We will have a problem getting over the barrier most likely, so we may have to get out on the side and pull our boats over. That barrier is extremely high this year.
-- josh

That would be cool if swampy joins us....anyone else want to come?

I was thinking of doing a little fishing on Sunday. Plans are not confirmed yet but I might join you guys if you don't mind...

IFISH say's,

Well, so far so good. It looks like I'm in for this Sunday expedition.

Todd, I live just inside Milpitas at the bottom of 237. We could caravan or carpool if you'd like. I've only been to Middle River once, so I'll need directions from someone or if you know how to get there Todd, you got Navigator bro.

Gordon, I'm a drummer and our band was asked to play for Memorial day. It might be a promotional thing, but i dunno. I just pick the sticks up and wack away.

I might join you too. I live in San Jose and would be leaving
at 3:45AM if I'm to get there by 5:00AM. I'll confirm in a day
or two and maybe join a group driving up. I need to get my line
in the Delta water.
15028, RE: Fishing this Sunday?
Posted by Samurai TI, Thu May-22-03 08:16 AM
I'm definitely going. Looks like we're going to have a caravan going up from the San Jose/Milpitas area! I might have another friend from Plesanton going too but won't find out till later today. IFISH, I'll give you a call either later today or tomorrow. Larry, where do you live in SJ?

Anyway, looking forward to seeing everyone and hooking up!

Is the frog bite starting to happen yet? Any other tips from the Delta masters???

Todd
15030, RE: Fishing this Sunday?
Posted by BuzzFish, Thu May-22-03 08:50 AM
I'm no delta master but I sure like to fish it. Don't know if the frog bite is on but I plan on throwing a buzzbait over submerged weedbeds and laydowns most of the morning then switching to a frog towards low tide. Senko's, jigs, reapers all do well either in pockets or on the outside of the weedline.
15031, RE: Fishing this Sunday?
Posted by Lake, Thu May-22-03 08:52 AM
There have been some frog fish taken there, but the buzzbait bite seems to be the real deal. Good chance you could see me there as well. If I do go I will be going out of my buddy's house though so unless you get past the bridge you wont see me you'll just hear me
"HOOK UP BIG DAWG!"
15034, RE: Fishing this Sunday?
Posted by Samurai TI, Thu May-22-03 09:14 AM
I'll be sure to bring my digital to get some good shots!

Man, I'm getting hungry for some of this fishing! I've been in a little slump lately and need to get back on top!

Just make sure everyone tells the fish we're looking for a topwater bite...let's see some big dawgs CRUSHING those buzzbaits!

Todd
15042, RE: Fishing this Sunday?
Posted by BuzzFish, Thu May-22-03 12:33 PM
I with you on that one. I need to get on a hot bite, it's been too long, and some buzzbait fish are just the ticket to put a smile back on my face!

I've never launched from Union Point. Is that where the road we take hits the levie?
15043, RE: Fishing this Sunday?
Posted by Samurai TI, Thu May-22-03 12:59 PM
Sweet, frogs in the afternoon, buzzbaits all day...what more can a basser ask for?!?

As for launching, I was thinking about near the barrier, bringing a tuber along who hasn't fished that section. Is it still cool to launch up there?

Todd
15046, RE: Fishing this Sunday?
Posted by BuzzFish, Thu May-22-03 01:54 PM
It is not open to launching. The farmer who "owns" that part of the levy had it blocked off because too many people were leaving to much trash. You might be able to drive up fairly close and drop someone off but I don't think there is anywhere to park up there. John or Darce probably have better info. I was just going to launch at Union Point (assuming I can find it).
15047, RE: Fishing this Sunday?
Posted by big_worm, Thu May-22-03 01:56 PM
Where I plan on launching from is on the levy, below the rock barrier. We can't get up past the rock barrier because of a gate that is locked. Get on the levy and take it until it turns right. Right there is a spot to pull off and an easy launch to the water. Clint you can't miss it...it is right past the point where Victoria breaks off from middle river. You can probably throw a float tube in up further, but it would be a pain in a kick boat.

I live by the San Jose arena (downtown). My phone number is
408-298-0902. Give me a call and let me know where to meet up
for a caravan. I don't know if there is a better route, but was
planning on going up hwy 680 to hwy 80 to hwy 4 (through Antioch/
Martinez). I can head up hwy 880 to Fremont if needed. Is there
a way to cut off below Martinez to get to hwy 4?

I'll be doing Colero res today as they ran the canal yesterday
and stirred up alot of vegitation. This usually sets off the
fish and is unusual that they did this so late in the year.
They told me they had to empty some water out of Amador. I've
also been wanting to hit Anderson. May be good as there haven't
been boats on the lake due to the construction on the boat
ramp. I'll be doing Clear lake next week. Have res for a camp
site for Monday through Wed night. Probably try to fish the
south end, but may be determined by the algie bloom. Anyone
interested in joining me for either of these outings?

Todd, there has been a frog bite for about a month now. It wasn't real good with the inconsistent weather, but I was getting some blow ups...it should really be on now...but then again, you will always see me with a frog tied on at the delta.

Delta Middle River above the
barrier is the place to be.

Top water bite is becoming to be on fire...
Below the barrier Victoria Slough
Buzzbaits, MinusOnes, 4Eyes, ZeraSpooks, Hula Poppers...
Early morning before the Zoo of Yahoos get onto the water.

Be careful where ever you decide on going

Hey IFISH,

Sounds good. I'll be sure here in a short time but think it is a go. I've got directions and have been there a couple of times (via SF). If you guys can believe, the Delta is about the only place where I have NOT caught a fish over 4lbs. Pathetic, huh? Will have to change that this weekend!

Talk to ya later.

IFISH say's,

Wow, frankly i'm amazed at that ! My biggest fish came from the Delta ( 4.10lbs ). Grant it, it's not a big boy, but MY biggest. This place is the spot to get a good one. feel free to call me when you find out what's goin on, 408-832-9969. Later bro.....

Todd, look forward to hooking up out there, hopefully we hook up some solid fish. It looks like Sunday will be a little cooler, 80 degrees or so, but I don't think that will matter much...should be wide open.

So, who's meeting at Joe's spot off 205? Maybe I should meet there with some of ya (including the Milpitas/San Jose caravan!).

IFISH say's,

I'm thinkin majority of us could meet him there and caravan it the rest of the way. It's right off of the freeway and it'll be better so that everyone goes to the same spot. One big happy fishin' click !

So let me try a schedule and see if it works for everybody....

Leave San Jose (Larry N) ------ 3:45AM (Drive Up Hwy 880)
Meet Milpitas People (?) ------ 4:00AM (Meet 880 and 237)
(Name a meeting place)
Meet Freemnot People (?) ------ 4:15AM (Meet 880 and Mission)
(Name a meeting place)
Continue on Mission to Hwy 680.
North on Hwy 680 to Hwy 580.
Meet People at 205 in Tracy --- 5:00AM (Name a meeting place)
Drive to Hwy 4 and Union Point --- 5:15AM

I believe I'm the only person from as far south as San Jose.
Need a list of people from Milpitas and Freemont so we don't
forget anyone. Milpitas and Freemnot people need to name a
meeting place to link up with the caravan. Does this work for
everybody? I think the SF people will be driving a route further
north (hwy 80 to 24 to 680 to 4?). Inputs?

This will give me a chance to meet some bnt people and network
with some bass nuts. Only bass nuts would get up so early to try
and outwit some fish. My phone number is 408-298-0902.

IFISH say's,

Larry, you da man bro ! :D Looks pretty good. Funny enough, there's a Denny's right off of the 237/Caleveras exit on the right hand side. Todd lives off of 1st street right up 237, so it's no thang to get over here right quick. Also, there's a Denny's on Mission aswell on the way to 680. ( I'm glad I'm naming Denny's instead of starbucks ! ) I'm waiting for Todd to hit me back and as far as I know, he's the only one meeting me in Milpitas so far.

I talked to Todd this afternoon and the plan is for me to
meet him at his house at 4:00AM. I have a float tube and a
sports car, so I'll through my stuff in his car. I guess
we are meeting a friend of his and you for the caravan.
And the hunt for lunker bass continues.
