So, my buddy Dave and I from Coyote Bait and Tackle decide to take our girlfriends out fishing today. We decided on taking them to a little local pond nobody knows about to let the girls have some fun catching bluegill, crappie, and sunfish while me and Dave fish for bass. We set them up with the usual light line, spinning reel, and redworm under a bobber:( . We get there at about 9:00 and we immediately got the girls on some little fish :* , they where having a good time. Dave and I pick up some bedding bass up to 3 pounds and a few more throwing blades. I worked on a 7 pounder for 15 minutes then thought to myself "man, this is alot of time to be working on this fish when i'm supposed to be by my girl's side, helping her bait hooks, etc.." so i gave up on it and moved on. I then go to my girlfriend and she says she's been seeing alot of movement in the water 15-20 feet out. So, I get her all set up again and put a splitshot under the bobber to really wing it out there...I casted the redworm out there about 25 feet or so and saw a huge school of baitfish just boil over the suface...sure enough, 2 seconds later, fish on! my girl starts to reel in the 4.5 inch tall sunfish"good size"...she says"I just want to play it like it is a bigun and get it all tired", she does, it tries to swim away for a minute then gets exhausted...Oh wait! There it goes! The sunfish takes off like a bat out of hell darting every which way! What the F#@& is it doing? Holy S%$&, There is a 9+ bass on its tale chasing it all around the pond! I look at my girl and she is straight up freaking out not knowing what to do, she was right next to me, but i was screaming at her"let it take it, let it take it!"}( The sunfish was really moving and came straight at us with the monster on it's tail, it swam right to our feet and the bass spooked off... We pull the sunfish up and it is totally tired out with a hook in it's throat. My girlfriend had a sad look on her face when i told her it wasn't gonna make it...I thought the bass was long gone at this time and i told Alyssa maybe it will survive when i release it, ya know, we can watch it swim away unharmed, so i cut the line by the hook and threw the sunfish 5 feet away...it started to swim away, then stopped and kinda sank...then it started to swim off and my girlfriend was like "yay!:D "...All of a sudden, here comes the 9+ big momma come right along side it, stalking it casually, the sunfish makes one last effort to get away and smack, her mouth opened WIDE and just inhaled the "poor" sunfish! I was jumping up and down with amazement wittnessing the whole sequence! I look over and said"did you see that-" She had a look on her face like her dog just died...;( I was pissed, i should have left it on the line, or rigged it up on my heavier rod at that...I told her "SEE, THAT'S EXACTLY WHY I'M BASS FISHING WHEN I'M NOT WITH YOU!!!" Anyway, just thought i'd share that with y'all, I always hear stories like that with trout, but wittnessing it is awesome!...I'm going back with my 3:16 bluegill for sure this week!
