35769, My ODC 816 mods - rod holder, fish finder

Here are some of the modifications I have done to my 'toon since I got it three months ago.

One of the first things you need to add is a rod holder. I bought the Berkley rod holder http://www.berkley-fishing.com/prod.php?k=50517&sk=50510&u=28632028896 and mounted it to my rear rack using a hose clamp and a piece of flat rubber material which I bought from Ace Hobbies cut off a roll in a 1'x1' piece. The rubber placed in between the hose clamp and the frame keeps the rod holder very snug and prevents sliding. Then I added a small bungee to keep the rods in place while I pull one out, last I painted the hose clamps with a black Testors paint pen.

Next is the fishfinder. I mounted the head unit to my 'toon frame right in front of where the right oar mount is using galvanized pipe clamps and aluminum sheet cut to shape. I also wrapped the frame with pieces of the thin rubber where the pipe clamps are to keep it snug and prevent sliding. I am powering it with a small 12v lead acid battery I had from one of my RC rock crawlers. These batteries are great because they can be placed on there side without leaking. Walmart used to have them on clearance for $7. This fishfinder barely uses any power, I used it already for 10+ hours and it only drained 0.4 volts, on a battery that I haven't charged in over 8 months.

The transducer was another easy mount. I used a 1" tee and cut the top off so it's now a U shape to fit around the frame. I screwed the transducer and also used a hose clamp to a piece of PVC and mounted everything with a piece of the rubber material between the 1" tee and the frame. I didn't tighten down the hose clamps all the way so I can pivot the transducer up out of the way when I launch the 'toon. I took this mount apart last night and moved it back to the rear rack and painted everything black. The pics don't show that but it's mounted the same way.

badger, welcome to the board.
Thanks for the great post!
It's cool to see how everyone does their mods. Do you mind if I place copies of your pics in the rigging gallery?

Badger, that's exactly what I was thinking but since nobody's fishing, there's not much else to do but trash-talk. Thanks for posting the pics. I just got my fishfinder and RAM mount today and am going to put all these different ideas to use. Are you gonna join us for any tournaments and put that boat to good use?

Why aren't you guys fishing? I have been fishing twice a week lately. ;-)

I was going to use a RAM mount but I wanted a more low profile mount so I don't bang up the finder to much.

I was thinking about going to the Tourney at Coyote but I have to be in LA that weekend. I will hit up one of them sooner or later. I'm not very competitive though and I really enjoy a long relaxing day fishing from the 'toon.

Yeah nick you a-hole dont you know what you did was WONG!

Haven't been fishing cause I been working too much.

I like your information great shots of the boat.

You should come and fish some of the regular events, they are pretty chill everyone always likes to fish well, but it isn't ultra competitive, often guys will give a fellow angler a hot bait or color if they dont have any so were not super secretive or out to win at all costs, its about having fun.

Hope to see you at some Delta events or other tournies.

And Nick stick to your own threads, we all know Lake was too chicken to post on your thread cause he didn't want anymore folks to read ;)

No worries man. I would go nuts if I couldn't fish every week. But I think that is partly because of my fairly new 'toon setup.
