35769, My ODC 816 mods - rod holder, fish finder

Here are some of the modifications I have done to my 'toon since I got it three months ago.

One of the first things you need to add is a rod holder. I bought the Berkley rod holder http://www.berkley-fishing.com/prod.php?k=50517&sk=50510&u=28632028896 and mounted it to my rear rack using a hose clamp and a piece of flat rubber material which I bought from Ace Hobbies cut off a roll in a 1'x1' piece. The rubber placed in between the hose clamp and the frame keeps the rod holder very snug and prevents sliding. Then I added a small bungee to keep the rods in place while I pull one out, last I painted the hose clamps with a black Testors paint pen.

Next is the fishfinder. I mounted the head unit to my 'toon frame right in front of where the right oar mount is using galvanized pipe clamps and aluminum sheet cut to shape. I also wrapped the frame with pieces of the thin rubber where the pipe clamps are to keep it snug and prevent sliding. I am powering it with a small 12v lead acid battery I had from one of my RC rock crawlers. These batteries are great because they can be placed on there side without leaking. Walmart used to have them on clearance for $7. This fishfinder barely uses any power, I used it already for 10+ hours and it only drained 0.4 volts, on a battery that I haven't charged in over 8 months.

The transducer was another easy mount. I used a 1" tee and cut the top off so it's now a U shape to fit around the frame. I screwed the transducer and also used a hose clamp to a piece of PVC and mounted everything with a piece of the rubber material between the 1" tee and the frame. I didn't tighten down the hose clamps all the way so I can pivot the transducer up out of the way when I launch the 'toon. I took this mount apart last night and moved it back to the rear rack and painted everything black. The pics don't show that but it's mounted the same way.
