41867, Catching some stripers
Posted by bassinzink, Mon Nov-02-09 10:19 AM
Well I got out this weekend for some stripers. It was pretty fun, I got into a few different groups of fish on Saturday in the morning and in the afternoon / evening. Sunday there was a few fish eating, but it was generally a little tougher and pretty much shut down by mid morning.

Caught fish on a spoon mostly, but also some big hammer fish and rattle traps. I fish the San Joaquin and looked for birds chewing bait on the flats and the stripers were generally nearby. Caught fish as shallow as a few feet and as deep as 30+ feet.

I ended up tossing live bait at night on Saturday and had a blast catching some decent fish. I had one tank on though that was easily over 20+ lbs that broke off my leader on a last surge next to the boat, it absolutely choked a bluegill, was a fun fight, just wished I could have landed her. Here is a pic and a little vid of a fish that was when I was by myself. Nothing from the night turned out with the no light and no flash on the iphone.
