43492, BNT "Bonus" Points opinions?
Posted by Lake, Mon Jan-31-11 03:10 PM
I have an idea that I feel will encourage more topics here on the forum, create camaraderie and help everyone learn. Based on the current points system every position is worth 1 point. What if you could get 1 extra point for posting a simple report after the event on the forum. Even if you got the big skunk everyone can still learn from those reports. Everyone that fished the tournament would have the option to post the report and get the bonus point.

Basic rules could be: Report must be posted on the forum no later then the Friday following the event. Report must be at least 10 words. If you don't have a computer you can have a friend post it for you, as long as it says who's report it is.

Thoughts?

i dunno, that means the same amount of bonus points will be awarded for, "well, the bite this weekend really sucked a big one." or for an actual legit report.

I dont know if that would be concidered a report. If it was worded more like this it would be. "i though topwater early and flipped a senko all day, had 1 bite and lost it. fishing sucked for me"

I think if you had something more of a format where there could be some details that were included then for the guys who don't post reports a lot, they would have something to go off of.

Example:

Areas Fished - X Y Z
Lures used - X XX XXX ;)
Time spent in areas - XX
Observations - ZZZZ
# of fish caught and on what - VVV
Summary of day - ssssuuuuuuccccckkkkkeeeeeeddddd

It would be nicer to have some additional details but it would be really cool to have all the different reports and put it as an archive (maybe on a word doc or something) so guys in the future could use that as a reference tool.

Good idea Lake. We'll see if it flies!

Good point Todd. There would have to be some sort of basic format to follow

I like the idea too. It would get the forum some more attention and help guys learn in the process. I need to make a post prior to the Naci event stating any changes we have made this off season. This is one thing I really hope we can incorporate in to our club.

I do like the idea of more action on this forum and I am all for some encouragement to get more action.

I am not so sure about awarding points towards AOY for posting reports though. I personally think on the water performance should be the only metric used to determine the AOY.

It might be a pain for the guy who's job it is to keep track of the points throughout the year, to have to monitor the forum to see who posted a report and when.

Good feedback from all, thanks. Would like to hear more. I am going to step out of this now and let the club and officers decide whats best for the club.

I too do not feel the desire or willingness to divulge how I did (or did not) catch fish at a tournament should influence the end-of-year outcome toward the Angler of The Year. Take it from an OLD ex-semi-fishing enthusiast who's ONLY thrill each day is to read this forum, it would be great to see more posts. It's downright boring here. For me personally, considering my current status, I think you should pay me cash for my posts and leave the points system alone. I would be sure to post something on a daily basis.

Like the Format Todd.....Mybe instead of AOY points we could do a prize at the end of the year (Rod, Reel) for the most reports, ofcourse you would have to follow a pre described format..I could be a voted on winner? Just thinkin aloud....

Thanks Lake for stirrin this stagnant pot...I am all for more activity on the forum but dont know if I agree with a point for a report. I like the only contributing factor to AOY and TOC to be performance on the water. (unless we can start giving points for monthly safety meetings!!) IMO no one should need any incentive to share details on how they were successful. If you choose not to give away every little tip or trick, understandable. But to never share any info?, bass fishing is hour to hour, day to day. Ive given people my setup while slaying, and watched them not get touched. In a tourny situation(this aint the bassmasters) if someone did better than me on my unique tecnique that I shared, good for them because they did it better or different than me. I hope we all catch the piss out of em this year, just that mine are bigger. Puting more pressure on yourself while enhancing others experiences is what I love about this sport.

I share when I can but didn't get out much last year. And most of the time I did get out there wasn't much to report.

I do agree though that this site can be really, really slow. Even threats to start a discussion on civil twilight didn't do much. }(

Oh my(my best george takea?voice) :o Not the dreaded civil twilight! I admit I haven't been posting as much as I used to.Partly 'cause like my bro said....The delta sure was different last year( a bunch of tuff days on the water) and I realy haven't been in the kick in a long time.Living in an upstairs aptmt realy sucks.
I am going to make more tournies this year}(

Joe,
I agree, well said. couldn't have said it better myself. I believe that the reports would be a little vague with people tryin to not let their cat out of the bag. i am all about havin a little more activity on here, but dont think that reports for points would work too well. I feel that if everyone was just fun fishin it would be different, but since there is some competition involved, nobody wants their secrets out.just my opinion...

I mean come on, I asked a question bout graphs (which is a fishing inquiry) and only got 2 responses in two weeks, yet I post a question about blackberry turnovers on the scbbbc forum and get 5 responses... the first day.
By the way, shot a banded spoonie last day of duck season with 1 hr to go....was banded in Alaska...long flight to get shot in the face

I would definitely like to see more action on the forum but I don't think we should be awarding points for reports. AOY should've based on performance.

Nate I would have liked to give u input about the graphs. So here it is. U can get completely dialed in with the amount of money u said u were willing to spend. Most of us have older or a lot less expensive graphs. That's why I didn't post. It takes time to learn a graph. My advise is get one and start using it.

Gotta give it to Lake, you sure got some chatter going on now... for my 2 cents.. I agree with most that AOY should be determined by results on the water.. On that note i think it pretty pathetic that most guys are to proud of themselves to post a report..Or that u have to go that route to encourage the guys to post reports.. The events over if u caught some fish let the cat out of the bag.. Its kind of comical actually, u got the guys that tell the story before events,, pre fished for 2 days proir , have the fish on lock then go out and catch a couple, cause they beat their fish up for 2 days. Then u guys that hate on Taylor because he finishes top 3 at every event and always says hes fishin Senkos.. hell everytime i pull up next to him hes throwin a senko. Dont hate the player hate the game.. Congatulate a good fisherman.. Share a report after an event.. I go out to have a good time, catch some fish, and talk some #### to the fellas.. Im ready for a great season.. See u at Naci

I think I'm the guiltiest of giving Taylor a bad time.I'm pretty sure he knows it's all in fun and just because some #%#*&#% fishes nothing but spinning gear on the delta(the last bastion of manly tackle and gear)doesn't mean I'm a hater. :D
I think I'm gunna just fish my ultra light from now on and maybe I can be a super stud too :o

Disclaimer.....Taylor,you know I'm just messing around and no fish caught by swampy will be on a ultra light setup

:+ :+ :+ :+
ps I'm glad that there is some form of life on this forum!

You guys do relize you can post reports without giving full details, right? You dont need to tell full details, just read back to my reports. I give enough to make it a report without my secrets.

on another note: Fishin aint fun unless yer givin taylor crap. You guys are missing out, you only see him in passing while fishing. I have to deal with his 3ft tall, bald head, bears/cutler lovin, worm draggin butt in my boat for 8 hours at a time. HAR

Bring on 2011 and lets try and post more reports even if it wasnt a great day on the water.
43525, RE: BNT "Bonus" Points opinions?

Hey more power to taylor if he has the patience to fish a senko all day(pretty sure he does more stuff though)... if it aint broke don't fix it right?....the bears though? Cutlers broke, needs a fixin

I actually think maybe taylor sees someone comin n picks up a senko rod, gives the impression its all he throws, its an optical illusion, a conspiracy I tell ya.... haha just playin bud

hell i bubba shotted 95% of the hours on the delta last year but seem not to get any crap cuz....well...its not a senko..

who cares if we post reports or not, it seems like for the most part, after every tourney the top 1-3 finishers come on and give a brief"what I did to get it done," and i think thats fine. If you want to give a detailed report...great, if not, well that's up to you.

Who thinks we'll have 75 degree temps until 2 days before naci then get a monsoon? It seems inevitable

Wow wow wow!!! Where did all this crappy with me come into play. Just playing and I know you all are too. As far as me posting reports I will definitely be doing so, but I didn't for last weekend. I'll get it up. For the years past I am definitely guilty of not posting much at all.

As far as my senko goes and not a big huge bait or a topwater in winter, I throw that and it works. There is times for it all. I throw pleny of baits. Swamp I roll with the spinning rod for my senko no matter where I throw it. The dang thing was designed for a spinning rod. Give the senko a break for now. You will see it un a couple months.

I'm disappointed with Cutler. Very

Hope to see a bunch of you all at Naci. GO SPOTS!!!

Lake ill be dragging for 8 hours shortly. Mix in a bit of rowing and 10 casts with a crankbait.

This thread is getting hilarious! I wanted to start posting more as well and I'm always down to poke fun at Taylor! Even though I won't be fishing BNT events much this year I am happy to see the effort to get this club to the next level. I was thinking that since the club is starting to collect bait, having shirts made, and other great ideas to get everyone involved, how about a bait package or a shirt for the guy who is posting reports, new topics, or even letting people know when they are shooting little birds in the face! ;) It can be voted on by the club prior to the next tournament and the award can be given out at weigh in. Hope to you see you guys soon and good luck @ Naci!

Im crackin myself, Now these guys are apologizing to Taylor.. Im not hating on the Senko by all means, not a tourney or a fun fishin day I dont fish it myself.. I was more talkin about the comrodery at the events.. Some guys crack me up.. As for the Cutler talk, IM a Bears fan myself and it sure looked like he bitched out.. But we were still in the NFC championship game, anda in the game with our 3rd string QB in there.. Where was ur team at fool, the couch watchin the game.. LMFAO.. Lets go Naci
43533, RE: BNT "Bonus" Points opinions?
Posted by spottedbass, Fri Feb-04-11 12:39 PM
Yeah that does suck when your third string qb has a bigger pair of stones than your starter. it was nice to see cutler tear up a little when he was asked about his bitchiness. At least he can now be the new spokesperson for kleenex...cuntler....(correct my spelling if wrong)

And i believe rodgers is in the super bowl...no? I've been a follower since he went from Butte College to Cal, he is a Chico native ya know. Chico high, to butte junior college, to cal to green bay (niners missed out there...sweet a.smith pick)..

I think swampy may have sent taylor some flowers for the ribbing he's givin em the past few years.haha
...and senkos were designed for spinning rods, and Grizzly Adams did have a beard
