Today's forecast called for lots of wind and that definitely forced me to decide which direction to head, because I didn't feel like fighting wind all day. We launched at 5:15am, The tide was high and starting to move out. I've fished Mildred several times before and had some spots I wanted to revisit. Luckily the tide and wind worked in my favor and as able to glide the direction I want to go all day.
The delta bite has been tricky all year, and I figured 12lbs would win it today. When the bite is off like this, reaction baits are key to getting bites and dialing in the fish. I knew I was going to throw a jerkbait all day, as it's my confidence bait and a great search bait. Today it turned out to be the difference maker. I was able to catch 10 keepers in all. 8 of them coming on the jerkbait the others flipping in the isolated tulies.
All my fish came in 5 feet of water or less. All but one came before 10am while tide was going out. My better quality fish came on a rip raft wall that was barren of grass and tullies. But what it did feature was a deep drop off/edge going from 5-7 ft down to about 20 feet. A perfect place for fish to move up vertically. My biggest fish came around Noon. The tide was just starting to come in. I was fishing an island and had about 2 ft of water depth. Rip Rip, BANG (like stephen curry from 3). The fish hit so hard that it nearly ripped the rod out of my hand. It was a fun fight but only weighed slightly under 3 pounds. I thought it was a striper for a moment. The bite was few and far between but when they did bite they weren't just nipping or sipping at the bait, they were smoking it!
Later in the day, I did manage to get a few frog blowups, and others had some big blow ups as well, but came unpegged. I think once we get some stable weather the delta will become a slugfest this summer.
I had a limit of 8lbs by 9am and was able to cull all morning up to my final weight of 10.44, which was enough to take 1st place! Shout out to my sponsors Canopy Grenades and WOO Tungsten
Tight Lines!

Good job, Max! Congrats to Scott for second and "atta boy" to whom ever got third, fourth etc. Maybe I'll see you guys at the next one.
