5448, Lakes for next year....Any Suggestions?
Posted by FIT, Tue Dec-04-01 05:44 AM
Does anybody have any suggestions on new lakes to fish next year, that allow kickboats/tubes, have camping facilities close by, and where everyone can catch some good fish.

Please post your thoughts here and also have them ready for the meeting at the beginning of next year.

I would like to try and fit Tulloch in sometime. It has a ton of smallies shoreline camping. The only issue i see is the warm months its kinda crazy out there as far as boat traffic. The cooler months you never know when you will be hit my a hard core storm being in the valley. Camping could be bad in the cold months. If we were to attempt a night tournie there in the summer we would have company with bass clubs events

I was also thinking about Tullock, but I have never been to the lake, just heard good things about it. I personally don't mind camping in the colder months, so this is one we can keep in mind. John maybe we should head up there one of these days and check it out, I wonder if there is a swimbait bite up there this time of the year? grin

Yeah TULLOCH!
That was my Grandfather's favorite lake. I'd be into that one. (if I can get there)

I think Lake Sonoma would be a better night tourney lake. Maybe in July or August. I guess that's not a new one though.

The only other lakes I can think of are further than Clear Lake for you guys in the south bay(me too for that matter); Indian Valley or Pillsbury. Both are kinda remote and should have some pretty good fishing... once you get there.

How bout Calero or Coyote for a one day tourny?

All of the Santa Clara County Lakes are out of the question. Yes it would be killer to have a tourney at Calero or Coyote, but the flood of rules and regulations make it unrealistic.

I would be up for tulloch or anything new. But as I learned all so well this year with Margarita, going to new places can be a real pain. I think we have some great lakes on the circuit already and I will be just fine if we fish all the same old stuff this year.

So are you saying you were happy with Spring Lake? I personally thought there were too many rules and would be willing to look at another lake to replace that one.

Just my .02

I was happy cause I caught an 8lber LOL.
Forgot about that one to be honest. We probably should find something to replace that one even though it is a cool little lake.

Pardee wont let us out side the 5mph zone...fishing inside of it sux...amador would be an idea but it is a very pressured lake during the summer nights spring and fall...boat tournies almost every
weekend

I am not in your club but I fish out of a float tube a lot at Folsom and Rancho Seco. Folsom is a good lake and allows camping. I do better there out of a tube than a boat, 20 to 30 fish days are common, but not a good average size. Rancho Seco is a small lake but loaded with huge fish. they allow camping and night time is the best time to fish this lake because of the clear water. I've caught them to 9lbs here but have seen many 10+ fish around. The lake record is 16lbs caught by a guy a few years ago while bed fishing. You should have a tourney here in March and you'll have some huge weights.

How big is Rancho Seco? And where is it? What kind of cover is there along the shorelines?

5469, I vote for Spring Lake again
Posted by jsmith, Wed Dec-05-01 08:11 AM
Regardless of whatever hassles we had to go through, we were able to make it work ONCE, and I think it's a good pond for our needs. I think it's better suited to our club than *Pinto*, which I feel has become too small for our growing ranks (not that I'm saying we should abolish Pinto altogether; I just think Spring Lake fits us better -- and accomodates the added participation of our brethren to the north, as well!).

Well, I'd love it. No doubt about that.

We had a hassle w/ Spring....If i remember I was the one that had to deal with everything and it was a big time pain. I was pumped that we did get it handled then after all my work I dont even get to fish it. I would be up for it again our insurance I think was good for 1 year on Spring Lake (i will check into that further) so if it is we can hold the event a week sooner and avoid the ins. problems. This is up for discussion at the meeting.

John,

The insurance is good for one event only. I checked on it last September. I was hoping that it would cover us for Spring Lake in March, but it won't. So you'll have to get another policy (I think it cost $175).

By the way, that's why we're shooting for BASS affiliation. We can become BASS affiliated & their insurance will cover us at Spring Lake. Cost is $15/year/member, plus all club members have to join BASS. The only drawback that I can find is that, if you're not fishing from a boat, you can't qualify as a Federation angler for the Classic. Too bad. I'd like to win the thing from a tube.

Thanks for the info....last I checked w/ BASS they wouldnt insure the club because we were tubes...I take it that has changed?
5474, RE: I vote for Spring Lake again
Posted by aparsons, Wed Dec-05-01 11:20 AM
I heard the same thing, but thru e-mail & phone calls, BASS told me that we could become BASS-affiliated, even though we're fishing from tubes. Their insurance policy will cover us (it's a $1 million liability deal, which is what Spring Lake requires). But, we won't qualify for Federation status as far as the Classic is concerned. I have an e-mail contact with BASS that I can pass on to you if you're interested.

Not sure bout Henn...Eastman wont happen tried that 3 years ago...very strict....Pine flat is cool but there arent very many good areas to get in a kickboat near good water.

Keep em coming

The Delta out of Big Break?

...just a thought

Maybe Shasta with the RASTA club. That would be a blast! http://www.tweenit.com/funMBgifs/biggrinsanta.gif

Hennessey is a beautiful lake, but it's used for Napa water supply & no water contact is allowed.

For Coyote, just so I know.

they want an enourmouse (sp) amount of money for permits...tons of paper work...we are required to have $1Million of insurance...and we cant fish for $$$$
5486, New East Bay parks - probably not, but...
Posted by jsmith, Wed Dec-05-01 10:47 AM
We have two new fishing areas in the east bay: the quarry ponds in Fremont, and Los Vaqueros Reservoir, outside of Livermore. Don't know if either allow kickboats (certainly not camping), but it's encouraging to see that we might at least have a couple of *recreational* opportunities, if not tournament sites.

I'd imagine it's quite doubtful that these would be viable options for the club, however.

5487, RE: New East Bay parks - probably not, but...

no private water craft are allowed at vaqueros. Don't know about the quarry ponds in fremont.

McClure/Millerton/Melones/Pedro/Hogan/Camanche? I know John & some of the 'old-timers' hate just draggin' plastics in some of these deep-canyon reservoirs, but they're all just sittin' there, crawlin' with Mr. Biglips & friends (trout plants=TROUT PLUGS)??!!!!

I wouldn't be averse to them!

5489, At the risk of being shot...

... what about the "other bass"? Stripers at O'niel Forebay (45min from my house) could be fun, or White bass at Naci, or Smallies wherever.

Wade
